Oh I can think of quite a few that made me utterly disappointed and deserve a "thumb down" (Earthlock for example). But I don't think we should do that, at least not in this "opening" round. ;)

Finally the list of "all games I played" came in handy :D
http://ndnw.net/GameDB/GameDB.php And here is my list of best ones: RPGs Weighting/Name: 1 Divinity: Original Sin 2 0.5 Underrail 0.5 Avernum: Escape from the pit 0.5 Wasteland 2 0.5 The Age of Decadence 0.5 Drakensang River of time 0.5 Fallout: New Vegas 0.5 Fallout 4 0.5 Elex 0.5 Might and Magic X Legacy Debatable if it counts as RPG: Weighting/Name: 1 FTL 1 Rimworld 0.5 Tahira: Echoes of the Astral Empire 0.5 Darkest Dungeon 0.5 Legends of Eisenwald 0.5 Xenonauts |

If you're only interest is talking about the games you didn't enjoy, then the codex is probably more suited to your tastes and perhaps an RPGWatch poll shouldn't count your vote anyway? Everyone is welcome to make a list of games they hated. You wont have any idea if the list you make will count for anything, but you're welcome to include your dislikes. Maybe I will be counting them. Who knows. |
My voting:
Top games (give more emphasis to these ones): Dark Souls: Prepare To Die Edition Divinity: Original Sin II Definitive Edition Kingdom Come: Deliverance S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat Starbound Stardew Valley The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Wasteland 2 XCOM 2 Other votes: Assassin's Creed: Odyssey Battle Brothers Disco Elysium Dishonored Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen ELEX Fallout 4 King's Bounty: Crossworlds Mount & Blade: Warband Octopath Traveler Pathfinder: Kingmaker Phoenix Point Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire Space Rangers HD Sunless Sea Tales of Maj'Eyal The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel II The Outer Worlds Yakuza 0 |
Here is my list. I also wanted to include near the top Batman Arkham Knight, Batman Arkham City, and Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order but the RPG elements in those are too light for me to put them on a list of great RPGs.
1) Assassin's Creed Odyssey = 10 points 2) Deus Ex Human Revolution = 9 points 3) Mass Effect 2 = 8 points 4) The Witcher 3 = 7 points 5) Mass Effect 3 = 6 points 6) Prey = 5 points 7) Mass Effect Andromeda = 4 points 8) Deus Ex Mankind Divided = 3 points 9) Watch Dogs 1 = 2 points 10) Greedfall = 1 point |
Myrth and Co. were talking about what we had for our top 5 the last 10 years
Does anyone have a copy of that? I'd be greatly appreciative. I have an idea of some of the games I will vote for but I don't want to leave any out. PS -FTL is a good choice btw. I'm putting that in my PM when I get it bundled up. |
I weight the below list equal. PM sent.
Pathfinder: Kingmaker Torment:ToN Pillars of Eternity 1 + White March Pillars of Eternity 2 + DLC Wasteland 2 Divinity Original Sin I Divinity Original Sin II Tyranny Bard's Tale Remastered |

It must have been quite a nice decade since my first "I've played these and really liked them"-list was a massive 23 games. Not counting the strategy- or shooter-with story games. (And I learned that my wife might be right in claiming that I've spent quiiiite a bit more time than I feel on CRPGs…)
The top-10 ended up as a top 11 since I couldn't decide between the last 3: 1. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt 2. Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire 3. Divinity: Original Sin II Definitive Edition 4. Mass Effect 3 5. The Witcher 2 6. The Outer Worlds 7. Torment: Tides of Numenera 8. Dragon Age: Inquisition 9. Wasteland 2 9. Disco Elysium 9. Drakensang: The River of Time |

Look in the Miscellaneous section. |
By the way, I voted for:
1. The Witcher 3. |
I voted for only Pathfinder: Kingmaker
|
One big hurrah for @lackblogger. Massive work, I guess. :whew:

Best Narrative: The Last of Us
Best RPG: Pathfinder: Kingmaker Most influential: Minecraft Honorable mentions: - Fallout New Vegas - Witcher 3 - Factorio …There really is no "best" with so many genres and tastes - way too subjective. Most influential is unequivocally Minecraft though (wherever you fall on its interest spectrum). |
My list, in alphabetical order (disclaimer, I voted only for RPGs, so no tactical combat games, action adventures, roguelikes or similar nosense)
Blackguards 2 Darksouls 3 Divinity: Original Sin Divinity: Original Sin 2 Dragon Dogma (The) Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim Kingdom Come: Deliverance (The) Legend of Grimrock Mass Effect 2 Mass Effect 3 Neverwinter Nights Enhanced Edition (If it counts as a "new" release, if not, ignore) Pillars of Eternity Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire Shadowrun Dragonfall Underrail (The) Witcher 3: Wild Hunt |
Well this isn't a vote and the posted lists pretty much cover my favorites for the decade, so I'm satisfied. No point in making somebody check an extra list. Thanks.

I'll try and post that as a list in a day or two. Interesting in the first few years we voted on best Indie Game and I remember it made sense at the time . Its hilarious we had a Worst Game of the Year one year. Here's my list. I fear I'll think of more in the coming week Skyrim Pillars of Eternity Shadowrun Returns XCOM: Enemy Unknown Legends of Eisenwald FTL Crying Suns Druidstone: The Secret of the Menhir Forest Legend of Grimrock Underrail Age of Decadence Are all entries equally weighted? Every game submitted is counted as 1 vote? PS - Lack, you're awesome. Never knew you were awesome. Thanks. |

We should have a vote for most overrated game - then i might actually vote for clearly Skyrim is the most overrated trash since the creation of games.
|
1. Age of Wonders III
2. DDO: Menace of the Underdark 3. Conan Exiles 4. Panzer Corps 5. Kings's Bounty, any parts released after 2010 6. XCOM (2012) 7. Eador: Masters of the Broken World 8. Skyrim Most disappointing: Elex |

But that is my point. I played the game and it was enjoyable for the period i play but it really is hollow and forgetable. I'm not saying it wasn't fun - but it is hardly a great game (imho) hence the overrated comment. I thought witcher 3 was a much better game (this is not a comment on enjoyment factor but rather the quality and reactivity of the game world). I enjoy a lot of crappy games - they might be simple, easy to play and at time mindless repetition but i wouldn't call them quality games - though perhaps one could argue that 'quality' is what you enjoy playing the most and not the artistic value.

Ladies and Gents, if Skyrim wins I will take desperate measures. Like complaining vigorously about it.
If the ensuing depression will leave me any impulse, that is. :-/ |
Well I'll let the video speak for itself…

Anyway nice list agree with most of them. |
Is it just me or people are forgetting Dragon's Dogma and Dragon Quest 11. Stop being so cruel!
 Quote:
Just IMO. As I do mingle with people and when shit hits the fan aka someone asks me what RPGs to play next, I need a written list to shove them off with so I can continue enthusing over stuff noone cares about. :) |
Winner: Witcher 3
Runner ups: Elex Divinity Original Sin 2 Pathfinder Kingmaker Kingdom Come: Deliverence I almost added Underrail and Legends of Eisenwald, but even though those are 2 great games, they're not quite on the same tier as the ones I voted for game of the decade wise. |
Quote:
People are voting for games they really liked from the previous decade and putting their votes into a ballot box. They are not restricted at all by what they choose to vote for. I fail to see how "this isn't a vote" nor why writing the names of a few games you particularly enjoyed from the last decade seems to pain you so? May I, or indeed we, be honoured enough to know what your thinking is? |
Quote:
The real cruelty here is people seems to forget about Assassin's Creed Origins. Which is an amazing game! |
That's the beauty of voting for a single game, noone will accuse you of forgetting some game or a dozen, it's clearly intentional. :p
