I wonder how much the development was impacted by having to work remotely due to the pandemic. I'm still enjoying it quite a lot, but I think it could have been even better.

I agree completely.

Alistair April 7th, 2022 22:21

Yeah. I wonder what comes after Elex3. Assuming there is an Elex 3.

I kind of think they should Kickstart a little project to see how easy they find Unreal or Unity to use, given what they want to implement.

They're aleady working on their next game, but as usual, they won't talk about it so early in development. I think it's safe to assume it's going to be Elex 3.

After that, I think they go back to a fantasy setting. Hopefully something that's different enough from Gothic and Risen to make it distinct in some way. I'm just speculating though.

The factions seemed to lack the clarity and distinct identity they had in Elex 1. The clerics path certainly seemed meagre and unfinished. I only discovered the alb companion towards the very end, either I missed a cue or it just wasn't well signposted.

Think I preferred Cold Jax in Elex 1, wasn't sure what to make of (almost) cheerful, warm Jax.

Konjad April 9th, 2022 13:36

I have found Gothic:

A couple of other easter eggs I've found.

Star Trek

Another easter egg: Probably you all found the side quest with the three investigators Justin, Bobby and Petra???

The kids in the Fort? I liked that one. It was well written and acted. I wasn't aware it was an easter egg though. What's the reference?

This is a reference to "Alfred Hitchcock and the Three Investigators".
In Germany they are called "Die drei Fragezeichen" (the three question marks) and have been very popular among kids.
Edit: Jupiter Jones is called Justus Jonas in the German version. The other two (Bob and Peter) have the same names in both languages. So Justin, Bobby and Petra are obvious references for a German audience.

Morrandir April 10th, 2022 09:33

It was hilarious as I'm literally reading the children's books these days.

Also Justus' uncle (which he's living with) is a scrap trader. In Elex it's his mother iirc.

I was disappointed though that their base didn't resemble a coffee pot (which it does in the books).

Alistair April 10th, 2022 14:16

In the original books their base is an old RV that has been hidden by years of scrap piles building up in their parents junk yard :)

I remember the graveyard thing was in Gothic 2(?) as well.

I don't remember that, but I'll never forget the old rusty car up in the mountains in the expansion. That was one of the most memorable easter eggs I've found in a game.

There was also that weird sign in the Valley of Mines signed by "The mighty alien dwarf".

Ah, nice. Didn't know that.

Robollix April 17th, 2022 12:34

I've sadly come to the end now. I haven't enjoyed myself so much since I first fired up Skyrim back in 2012 or so…wandering around, getting lost, discovering new places. Just going to grab a cheat video, and find the rest of the map pieces….see what happens…:)

bkrueger April 17th, 2022 17:58

I have now completed my second run through Elex 2 and I enjoy it as much as the first one.
In my first run I played on normal, joined no faction and romanced Caja.

In my second run I played on ultimate, joined the Morkons and then the Outlaws and romanced Nyra. I like the Nyra character more than Caja and Nasty, compared to them she is a real lady.

The side quests are much more interesting than the main quest, so I can only recommend to play as many of these as possible.

i had all companions on true friendship before completing the main quest, but
Spoiler – but

I found exploration even more rewarding than in Elex 1 since you can find unique
Spoiler – finds
.

The end of the main quest can be interpreted either as a cliff hanger or is rushed somehow. I hope, they make an expansion or something like that…

Anyways I love the game for world building, atmosphere, side quests and exploration. I love to play on after the main quest, flying around with jet pack mastery and finding all stashes and even some side quests, I have missed before.

Now i am torn whether I should play a third time or make a run of Elex 1…

Corwin April 17th, 2022 23:54

Question for those who've finished. How did you deal with the search bots towards the end of chapter 3. (6th power quest) Those things killed me before I got close and my ranged attacks did almost no damage. With 2 at a time I couldn't really dodge them either.

Spoiler – Which robots?
You meet them in an area with some kind of castle ruins. Fight them one after the other and, if possible eliminate all the normal (human shaped) robots first (Edit: I teleported to the cleric's teleporter for this quest, so I got them from behind). I managed to get into "nearly melee" distance, such that you can always keep a piece of wall between the robot and you. Then I used a shotgun: One shot and back behind the wall. In melee distance the shotgun is the weapon with most damage and it works quite well in that situation. I never used magic in my two play throughs, so I don't know, how this works out. But from what I heard about that fire rain spell, it could even be possible to stay behind the wall and still kill the robot? You could also try hand grenades or a grenade laucher to shoot near them while staying behind cover.
If instead you mean
Spoiler – Drones
I manged to kille them from far away with a bow, while strafing, so their rays didn't hit me.

Corwin April 19th, 2022 00:06

No, these are the super huge warrior robots out in the open with nowhere to hide. You have to kill 10 of them for the quest Partner of the 6th Power. They come in pairs.

Maylander April 19th, 2022 10:36

Each faction gets a different quest at that point, so most never have to kill the bots for the Seperatists.

The key is to get close to them. I kept using the flight charge attack. If you have a melee 1H weapon equipped, fly up, get them targeted and click attack. You'll swoosh over to them in an instant. Also works really well for flying monsters.

@Corwin: Which faction are you playing for (or, if you didn't join a faction, which one did you choose as partner for the sixth power)?
A was factionless in my first playthrough and chose the Berserks as partner. in that playthrough I only had to fight two huge robots sent by the Clerics. in my second playthrough I was Outlaw via Morkons and had to fight none at all. So you are probably Alp and/or Cleric?

Correct. If you pick Cleric, you have to clear out some of those massive robots that are patrolling in the Alb base. They are, by far, the heaviest hitters in the game.

Robollix April 19th, 2022 13:23

@ Corwin.
If I remember the area correctly, there is quite a bit of cover around…bits of old ruins? Anyway, by chapter 3 I had gotten myself a very useful (powerful) shotgun and grenade launcher. Maxed out Abilities on Powder Master/Ranged Weapons/Grenades/heavy Weapons. Piled the points onto my Strength and Dexterity. Because really, the absolute best weapon is some variation of Shotgun. The grenade launcher is OK… but if you are too close, you blow yourself to bits!! If I AM thinking of the correct place, I employed LOTS of quick-slot health potions/strafing in order to get very close up and blast things with my shotgun. Coz obviously,as in real life, the shotguns are a lot more effective at very close range. As an aside, I always remap my RH mouse button to "Forward." I have always found it a lot easier in FPS (Quake etc.) to do that. So my left hand doesn't get too overworked, and into panic mode….hahahaha…..

Corwin should know that cleric isn't the easiest profession to choose…

Corwin April 20th, 2022 00:25

Yes, I'm an Alb/Cleric. Tried the grenade launcher and hand grenades, crossbow and shotgun. Haven't been able to get close enough to use my melee. Need some type of emp grenade, but I don't think there are any in the game!! :(

Maylander April 20th, 2022 10:23

Use the charge attack. It requires the jet pack talent for holding weapons while mid-air. Then all you have to do is fly near them with the weapon unsheathed and click the attack button as soon as one gets focused. You'll then basically teleport to them, and they'll start using their melee attack instead of the incredible damaging ranged attack.

Only works with 1h though.

Edit: Another thing worth looking into is pumping Constitution and getting all the health/health regeneration/protection talents. They do make a difference.

I have now started a third playthrough in order to join the clerics and to try out the fight against those big robots. I assume you mean those ten robots called something like "search robots", which you have to eliminate in order to get a group of separatist albs to join you?
I have to admit I found them very easy:
Spoiler – How to…

Edit: The advantage of having done three play throughs is, that I romanced Caja, Nasty and Tyra now. Also I found new small little things in each play through. I found Jack's new hideout (he left the lighthouse and I thought he was gone) only in my third play through.

Maylander April 26th, 2022 13:55

Wait, what? Jack's still around? I found his notes at the lighthouse, but I also figured he was just gone.

I'm surprised you guys missed that through multiple playthroughs.

Robollix April 27th, 2022 06:03

@bkrueger.. I take my hat off to you… Third playthrough already… I've recently finished a very thorough first playthrough. Very enjoyable. However, I spent so much time exploring every nook and cranny, that I think I will need to wait for quite a while before a second playthrough. Give myself time to forget everything…:) Which at my age, shouldn't take long…:(
Here's hoping for an Elex 3 sooner rather than later…..

I have to admit, that I have 245 hours in Elex 2 right now…

The first two play throughs are a kind of routine for me: I play every game on normal difficulty first and make a new play through on highest difficulty, when I like the game.

The third play through was mainly motivated by Corwin's robot question, but I also learned in my second playthrough that the main quests change slightly depending on the ally you choose. So you have only seen all important content, after trying the three main allies (Berserks, Morkons, Albs). And there are three romance options (at least to my knowledge or are there even more?), so if you want them all….

Edit: I take more time for every game than most people on the watch seem to do. I don't have that "backlog" problem people are constantly talking about. I have no ambition to play every new game, so no backlog exists. When I like to play a game, I look for one, which I might like, and play it. And I rather play a game, which I love, three times than playing three games in the same time and finding that I only like one of them…
I even replay older games like Spellforce or Might and Magic VI once a year rather than trying every new game.

Edit 2: Of course I also hope that either Elex 3 or some kind of expansion/add on for Elex 2 comes soon. There are enough open ends for this….I still want to kill Adam. By the way I always forget, where to find all 16 map pieces, so that alone would justify a new playthrough at any time…In an add on they could add some in game hints how to find them…

Oh, well, in that case I might have seen/heard it. I thought it was the actual guy.

As for playing through it multiple times: I've sort of played through it three times. And by that I mean I made a save before joining one of the factions, so I've only done the first 20 hours or so once, and the rest of it three times.

Corwin April 27th, 2022 23:35

That's always the way to play any PB game. I learnt that with G1 and have used it ever since!! :)

Maylander April 28th, 2022 00:23

Same!

It's pretty impressive support IMO. I wish some of this effort had gone into some of the weaker aspects before release.
