BioSynth: Rising - Turn-based Sci-fi RPG

Neptune Games is launching a kickstarter soon for their new game called BioSynth: Rising. As usual here are a few trailers, and link to the upcoming campaign.

BioSynth: Rising is a classic RPG with turn-based combat and in a Sci-Fi world. We're trying to make one of the best indie RPGs, so the project is pretty ambitious. With your help, we'll be able to create a masterpiece. Visit the Kickstarter page and activate notification so that you'll know when we are launching. Thank you!

The dialog system in the game is complex. Expect branched dialogs where a different route will lead to different results. Also, there are a lot of hidden dialog options (so, by creating two different characters, you can often see dialogs shape in different ways)

We got inspired by some of the best RPG games for pc (like the sagas of Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, Divinity Orinal Sin, Fallout and Diablo) and the tabletop rpg masterpiece that is D&D. As a result we are making a unique RPG, led by our passion for the genre.

Oh, this looks pretty good to me, Couch. I'll be there for the pitch!!

JDR13 July 29th, 2021 22:04

Sounds like it's worth keeping an eye on. I've never heard of Neptune games though. Have they developed anything else?

NeptuneGames July 30th, 2021 21:26

Mauro of Neptune Games here. Thank you everyone for the appreciation. I wanted to answer the following question:

As a studio, this is our first game, but the team is full of experienced people. For example, our art director is a teacher in the Comics international school of Pescara. Or the animator has created the game Hippocampus alone. If you want to check our Instagram, you can see that we constantly mention the team members (so you can take a look at their work).

Hope this answer your questions :)

I'll be around in case anyone has any other question.

Thanks for the reply. I've saved the page on Kickstarter. Good luck with the project!

Nice! Looks like the king of game I'd love to see, and I'm glad they chose Unreal Engine. I'm not sure it makes sense to have an "upcoming" Kickstarter page without even a starting date tho (announcement of announcement?) ;)

Wishing the best to @NeptuneGames, and looking forward to the actual Kickstarter! :)

Announcement of announcement like Magic the Gathering do  Just kidding… we haven't released an exact date yet because we take very seriously what we say. So we'll announce the date only when we are sure we can deliver on that date.

Anyway, here's something we haven't shared yet: Kickstarter will launch in the second half of September :)

Biosynth: Rising Interview

What inspired you to start working on the BioSynth: Rising?

Covid-19 left me jobless and after the initial feelings of loss and anger, I started to see the thing as an opportunity. After carefully thinking about it, I decided to realize my dream of creating a video game.

Choosing the genre was quite easy: I’ve always been a huge fan of RPGs… especially those classic ones like Baldur’s Gate, Icewind Dale, Fallout, etc. So it was decided that the game had to be a cRPG.

At first my idea was to create a fantasty cRPG, but then I started thinking about making a sci-fi cRPG… and soon everything clicked. I had an idea for something different. Something that, to me, seemed very cool. With this burning fire inside, I got to work and started putting together the team of Neptune Games. And I have to say that we’ve come a long way!

Only a couple of days left till the campaign launches. One thing I worry about is you ask for enough funds, and don't end up canceling the whole project in the future.

Only say this as another promising game went under today called Scarlet Republics.

Sorry to hear that those developers are shutting their project off.

It's a right concern and I want to tell you this.

I started this project as a solo developer. In four months I developed a project appealing enough to start gathering a team. Over time we grew to a team of 9 people, and 1 year after the beginning we are launching the Kickstarter.
There have been so many difficulties along the way… so many times that I thought "I can't overcome this". I'm not just talking about developing the game, but also finding teammates, earning money by working on the side (I funded the project with personal money), dealing with delays, etc… yet, here we are.
If we haven't quit up to now, we won't later on.

About asking for enough funds… yes, we are doing it.
But even if I'm mistaken, I have contacts with some investors that can help in case of necessity (I just didn't want to do it from the start because I don't want to rush the development to repay their investment… so I picked the harder route to stay true to our vision for the game).

Basically, our main concern is to make the Kickstarter go well.

It must be very difficult to evaluate how to set the goal.

Best of luck with the Kickstarter, we'll surely be following it closely! :)

Just a super-quick update to inform you that BioSynth is about 10% funded. We appreciate all the support and are very thankful to all of you who are believing in us. It means a lot to us!

JDR13 October 15th, 2021 22:55

Only 5 days left in the kickstarter, and it's obviously not going to reach their goal.

I'm disappointed because I think this has a lot of potential. I hope they find a way to get the funds they need and finish development.

daveyd October 19th, 2021 22:12

Shame it's not going well. Years ago, I would've backed this without a second thought. Unfortunately, though I've learned that an appealing concept and even some nice video footage are no guarantee of a an actual released game. While it's still no guarantee, these days I think unproven developers absolutely must have a playable demo for a successful crowdfunding campaign.

Also, while the main problem may simply be not getting enough eyeballs on the project, I can't help but think that the entry price is steep. The lowest digital copy tier comes out to $30. That's totally reasonable for a launch price but seems high considering the risk that the game never ships.

Couchpotato October 19th, 2021 22:17

Shame as well I agree it didn't get much publicity. Crowdfunding nowadays is just a disappointment and I miss the early days. His only option may be Early Access now.

Yeah. Perhaps they should try KS again if they get a demo ready. But I assume EA would've been the plan even if the Kickstarter had been successful. 50K wouldn't last very long and even with more publicity indie games are unlikely to raise six figures these days.

Thank you for the kind words!

We've been working on the plan B for quite a while now :) We'll share some details later today on Kickstarter.

Not sure about crowdfunding in general, but yes Kickstarter has changed a lot.

Actually there are quite a few options… not saying they are easy… on the contrary! But we're determined to complete the game.

We're already working on the demo :)
But at the moment, we are not planning another Kickstarter. We'll take a different route.

Redglyph October 21st, 2021 13:13

I'm a bit surprised it didn't catch up, but there must be many parameters. For example, there have been a lot of significant RPG releases these last two months. That must steal the show and distract from KS projects, and get people's preference if they have a limited budget too.

Hi everyone, in case you haven't looked at the updates on our website, we're still working on BioSynth: Rising :)
