Project Haven - Demo and Trailer

It was a busy week and we missed some news from Project Haven: a demo, and a trailer.

Project Haven infiltrates the Indie Arena Booth at gamescom 2021

Greetings Steel Dragons!

It's showtime again! This time we're bringing Project Haven to Germany (and beyond - it's a largely digital event) at gamescom as a featured title in their surprisingly exclusive Indie Arena Booth. It's not just show-and-tell time, either. We'll have a spot on gamescom's digital show-floor for you to visit, a fresh new trailer and (most importantly) an updated demo featuring an all-new mission.

[…]

There's a demo this time, right?

Indeed there is! Starting on August 25th there'll be a new demo build to download here on Steam. Not only will you get to check out our latest improvements to the UI and cover system, but a whole new mission. Rather than extend the demo and risk padding it out too far, we've swapped out the third mission for a new one to give you a fresh experience to tackle.

Let your friends know, challenge them to a round of PvP or bring them along for the ride in co-op. Don't forget that as with previous releases, the Skirmish mode will provide near-endless new combat scenarios once you're done with the campaign missions.

The new demo will be available for a while after the show, but not forever, so dive in while it's still fresh out the oven.

There was a dev livestream at gamescom 2021 too, but I can't find it.
The demo is still there, it's a 4.5 GB download.

I'm pretty excited by this game, in fact. :)

You sure it was 4.5 GB on your computer? Here it was downloaded 9 GB!
Anyway, time to try the demo out!

EDIT - Then I start the demo and I'm greeted by the screen below:

Time to take the kids out of the room :P

I'm pretty sure. It does occupy 9 GB or so on the disk though, that's what they indicate somewhere else about the demo. :)

I'll post some screenshots and few impressions on the thread "What games are you playing now?"

Yeah, all I came here to say is 9GBs?!! I mean, I'm still downloading it, but wow.

The gameplay is good so far. Combats are turn-based with action points and other features like interruptions when the enemy enters a cone of detection (a little bit like a D&D reaction). Aiming is manual in 3rd person view for a change. Enemies are shown if visible or on last known location, which is neat.

I love the graphics and the style.

A tutorial is accompanying the player at the beginning. First in a tiny, "fake" dedicated mission, then when new elements are introduced in later missions.

A little reproach: the information shown on the screen is all over the place, which is confusing. It probably requires some getting-used to, but I think an effort to present that in a better way is necessary, and not impossible.

This one sounds pretty good, I'll be watching to see what folks here think once it's fully out and available.

I played the original demo a few months ago, and it seemed decent enough. It's not very different from the newer XCOM titles except that you manually aim their shots. I'll probably check out the newer demo just to see what's changed.

That's pretty average for a demo now tbh.

Thanks for the heads-up! This game was bookmarked, so I'm checking out this demo for sure!

Just FYI, the devs have taken the demo out of Steam. From their Discord channel, "we have a ton of feedback to go through, we need to tackle it all before any future tests".

Keep it going! :)
