@Silver
I changed the game name to The Chronicles Of Myrtana: Archolos

henriquejr November 29th, 2021 22:10

GOG still has it labeled as 'TBA'. :(

What? I thought this was just a large mod. It's going to be sold as a retail game?

HiddenX November 29th, 2021 22:24

It's a free total conversion mod - get it on Steam.

Sorry if I didn't make myself clear here. When I wrote that GOG still has it as 'TBA', it's because I have the GOG version of Gothic II and so I expect it to be released there as well.

From both gaming pages we can read: "The Chronicles Of Myrtana: Archolos is a free, total conversion mod for Gothic II: Gold Edition. It features a completely new open world, improved skills systems, gameplay mechanics and complex story."

Sorry for any mistakes :)

Carnifex November 29th, 2021 22:42

Ahhh nice, out the day prior to my birthday! And this is my idea of a conversion module, one that does the work for you. I might even figure it out! Yes, I know I've said this once or six hundred times in the past, now get off my lawn. -)

Not your mistake at all. I obviously didn't take the time to read the details. :)

So this is like the Revision mod for Deus Ex. Free but popular enough to get its own store page. I'll check it out for sure. Dec 10 release over here.

Corwin November 30th, 2021 00:13

Will it be available in English, or do we have to read subtitles?

fragonard November 30th, 2021 00:23

subtitles. Polish VA only. May not be a problem, I played Velaya with English subtitles and it was fine.

And I'm playing Nehrim with English subtitles as well :)

Corwin November 30th, 2021 02:31

Unfortunately, I will only play a game with subtitles if I have absolutely nothing else to play!!

Couchpotato November 30th, 2021 04:02

Yeah I prefer if the voice-overs was translated in English as well. I played Nehrim and it was confusing at times even with the subtitles. Still it probably takes to much work.

By that I mean a small team sometimes finds it to be a daunting task. There are a few free communicates that offer voice work though, and that sometimes helps with mods.

Carnifex November 30th, 2021 04:38

Subtitles are fine by me, most of the time I have audio off anyways.

JDR13 November 30th, 2021 06:50

Hopefully the English subtitles are complete at release. They were still working on them this summer, and it sounded like they had a ways to go.

I could never play a game without any audio at all. As that is part of what makes a great game. It sets the mood and allows immersion. Especially boss fights and cut-scenes.

Strafe November 30th, 2021 09:01

Hell yes! I am waiting for this for years.
So glad that Gothic gets a mod (total conversion) like how Skyrim got Enderal or how Oblivion got Nehrim.
Now, let's hope is good :)

Andrew23 November 30th, 2021 09:46

If it doesnt have english voice overs, it doesnt exist! … funny

Gothic 2 might be my most replayed game, if I actually counted that. But Im not much in mods and fan content. Might give it try if feedback is positive though.

Well, on the Steam page, it says: CONTENT FOR THIS GAME: Polish Language Pack.."Adds Polish voice acting to …etc.etc…. So that would lead me to believe that the default voice-acting is perhaps English??

If your releasing it commercially on Steam for an international audience to play it damn well should have English voice-overs. I'll just turn off the polish voice-overs if possible.

Cant agree on that. The game has subtitles, which is fully acceptable for international publishing IMO.

Only it's not released commercially, done by a mostly polish team of modders and distributed for free. With Polish VO they've paid for themselves.

Strafe November 30th, 2021 13:21

It's a free, huge mod, I don't see the problem if it does not have english voice-overs. It has subtitles in english.

Yes it's free but it's released on Steam, given it's own professional page, and promoted just like Enderal. You don't see the other 1,000.000 mods getting this PR and attention.

At this point I really don't care as I had this discussion on the past news-thread. So moving on my opinion is flawed as usual, and I'm wrong every damn time I post.:movingon:

Well, not every damn time…

I will say though, as a parallel to this, there are lots of movies I could buy/rent from big online retailers that are only subtitled and not dubbed, so I don't think it's unusual - or even bad - to offer games up the same way, whether they are free or not. Ultimately, like everything in the marketplace, people will vote with their wallets (or in this case, downloads).

Don't speak logically like that. He won't understand a word. ;)

muhabor December 1st, 2021 11:12

Oh my god polish voice over is just fantastic! I see many well-known names in the trailer ( i mean well-known in our territory, that is). Sounds like proffesional work.

elkston December 2nd, 2021 23:10

I'm fine with good English subtitles if that's all that's available.

What I'm worried about is the INSTALL process. Are they going to release this with an easy-to-use, one click installer where you don't have to go through all the steps of setting up Gothic 2 for modding etc.

I mean even up to the point of including Gothic 2 in their install package (if they have legal permission)

fragonard December 2nd, 2021 23:16

I think this may have been the reason that Steam recently added a complete update for modern systems on the base game, so it would be ready to accept the mod, which they are hosting.

Being that it's a free mod, that's obviously not going to happen.

Dafela December 5th, 2021 12:28

I overlooked this - maybe I will skip Gothic I, which was very ancient even with mod upgrade, where I can wait for the official rework, and move to Gothic II right away.
I didn't play Gothic, I admit that, I started my love relationship with Piranha Bites games with Risen series, alteast I know where my year limit of playability is, so can I say that if someone will create games alteast of quality Risen I, I will play it :)
