Dragon Age - Screens @ Worthplaying

Worthplaying has 26 screens from Dragon Age, presumably from ComicCon and hopefully new.
More information.

Is that… Morenn?

"Hey, Morenn! Come back! We need you in Witcher2!"

txa1265 February 11th, 2009 01:25

Some things look amazing, others … don't. But that isn't what matters to me with this one anyway.

Haha, my first thoughts exactly.

I wonder how big influence The Witcher had on later development of this game.

They can ramble about how mature, dark and gritty this game is ad infinitum but until I´ll see some juicy sex cards, I´m remaining sceptical .

As for the screenshots, exteriors seem rather bland, though some LOTRy structures seem detailed quite nicely.
So far, what I´ve seen from interiors, they seem barren, uninteractive and generally uninspired.

Didn't look amazing or looked bad? I was scanning through them trying to see the bad….not seeing it…..it all looks very good.

ToddMcF2002 February 11th, 2009 03:18

I saw one video showing a decapitation and I thought "great this game looks real gritty!" but I havent seen anything like that one clip since? I thought this game was supposed to be influenced by the George Martin world? Its starting to looks a bit too much like a NWN2 clone to me. Not that that is a terrible thing, but why bother?

The screens of teh folks standing on the cobblestone reminded me of Quake III engine games, where people walking looked like skating. In action it might be different, and like I said that is pretty far down my priority chain for a RPG.

I'm glad I'm not the only one.

Definitely the censored version.

C'monnnnnnnnn…. Hair strategically draped over the mammary papilla does not a mature game make………… ugh, it just looks silly…. like Disney porn.

The ironic thing about it is that it's arguably even more provocative that way. It reminds me of Burlesque where the "tease" was the critical element of the "striptease.

magerette February 11th, 2009 21:36

For a game I've been waiting for forever, and a new IP for Bioware, these screenshots just seem a bit stale. As someone above said-looks more like NWN2 than anything else, and that game's several years old. Like Mike, my interest in this title isn't based on having smashing graphics, but these screenies aren't breaking any ground atmospherically or plotwise, either. Hopefully the game itself will make these criticisms irrelevant.

looks good from where I'm sitting

How far from your monitor is it? :)

Anyway, I don´t care about graphical intensity, what bothers me is the art direction, which so far seems severely lacking in the creative department.

rune_74 February 11th, 2009 23:00

Hard to get a feel from still shots though…can't wait to see a new vid.

Haha… yeah, they just need to give her a couple of big feathered fans then I guess.

danutz_plusplus February 12th, 2009 00:45

Looks good to me too. I don't care that it's similar to NWN2. And I like the look of those werewolves. :)

kalniel February 12th, 2009 20:43

Console version is looking good :)

danutz_plusplus February 12th, 2009 21:08

Regarding Dragon Age, I see that they updated their official site with the Origin Stories Section. It's flash-based and looks cool enough. Apparently there will be some videos for each origin. Coming soon.

Lol, that City Elf looks like a bride carrying a big knife. Kinda looks like she just cut-up her husband. :p
EDIT: Silly me. After reading the origin description, I find out she is a bride. :p

txa1265 February 13th, 2009 12:30

Yeah - saw that yesterday, glad somebody posted it already!

aries100 February 13th, 2009 12:41

Wasn't the beheading done in one of the trailers shpwing the fighter beheading the Ogre at The Tower or Ishal ? I still think you can do that, but you might need to have certain skill to do so…

Also, I think many people on the Bioware forums have reacted to the 'dark and gritty' meaning 'more blood and gore' ----- and decapitations get boring after a while - just look at Fallout 3…where every hit in VATS will net you either exploding heads or exploding limbs..

I wasnt suggesting it has to be a gore fest, but even with the semi "darkened" appearance it seems to be shifting entirely over to NWN2 sort of gameplay. Lots of magic FX and color and a complete absence of blood.

I think they handle blood in a good way in DA. As far as I've seen. I like the whole blood-splatter on your party members as they fight in hand-to-hand combat. Though I guess it can get ridiculous if not handled properly.

GothicGothicness February 13th, 2009 16:20

I have to say the screens looks surprisingly bad, which makes me happy, since I hope it means they spent a lot of time on the gameplay instead of graphics / engine.
