Hello everyone!

I guess a lot of people here on RPGWatch knows me and that I am developing a game. I think the people here have a lot of experiance and knowledge about roleplaying games. So I want to get as much feedback and ideas as possible for the game I and my team is developing!

bkrueger September 4th, 2009 22:19

Great, you have my best wishes for this.

Do you plan to post some examples for graphics and stuff?

Konjad September 4th, 2009 22:53

Looking forward to know anything about it ;) Could you write what is this about, your plans etc?

magerette September 5th, 2009 01:25

Nice to see you've gotten so far along, GG. Why don't you bring us all up to date and let us know how we can provide feedback. I really like the name, personally. :)

I will post screen etc, here when I feel ready to. Currently the main focus is on the gameplay and mechanics so I would ask for feedback about those things frist.

The idea of the game is basically to try to combine, C&C a good story with memorable characters and a lot of replay rate.

The setting is a medival one, and kind of like a classic RPG, however I think you'd all agree that it'd have some new ideas and twist and turns to the classic formula.

The story has a lot of surpises, I am trying to figure out how I can tell as much as possible about the game without spoiling anything.

I will keep posting polls, and threads with questions and idea, the first one is already posted, so if you guys keep looking there'd pop up threads every now and when.

I am glad you like the name, you can begin to give feedback by replying at the poll and share your ideas.

old fool September 5th, 2009 22:13

wunderbar,

story line
turn based combat system
Clever puzzles
cool quests

What else could you ask for?
Don't believe in luck, so may God be with you on this project.

That means no fantasy things like magic etc? Cool, that keeps me interesting ;)

GothicGothicness September 7th, 2009 11:05

Sorry to dissapoint Konjad, while it has this setting, it is an alternative one, so it still has lots of magic and that kind of things.

Corwin September 8th, 2009 08:51

I hear it's going to have great dialogue writing, but I wish there were at least 48 hours in each day!! :)

GothicGothicness September 8th, 2009 10:59

I will work on creating a spell which could fix that :D I could use the same myself, and the other team members too. However we are having a lot of fun working on this game! Some things are truly very unique, which I think many here would appriciate.

JDR13 September 9th, 2009 05:48

Does it have boobs? Because if it doesn't have boobs then I don't want to play it.

;) JK of course, it's great to hear about your project GG. How many people are working with you?

GothicGothicness September 9th, 2009 08:58

It will have females in it  :rolleyes:>:(

We are currenlty 4 + corwin = 4.5 :D Corwin is writing the dialogue, but he is very busy and also working on other projects and RPGWatch at the same time. Those dialogues will be sweet when they are done for sure though!

Pladio September 9th, 2009 13:44

If you need help, don't hesitate to contact me. I could help writing a bit of dialogue, or bug-testing. I might be able to do some other stuff.

Best of luck.

Corwin September 10th, 2009 02:08

Help with writing would be good. I'm currently flat out with U6P testing for the release of Milestone 7 at the end of this month. It's basically an Alpha version of the entire game. The writing I've done so far has been fun and I'm keen to get back to it, but I did tell GG that my work with U6P had to come first as final release of that is not too far away.

zakhal September 12th, 2009 12:52

Hows the game-engine? Are you going to create your own from scratch or use som existing one like torque game builder?

GothicGothicness September 12th, 2009 17:52

The technical engine related/graphics part is more or less done, except for some shaders etc. I am using the same engine as Venetica and Torchlight, so the graphics will be top notch for a indie game, ( without being modest ) maybe the best for any indie RPG I've seen so far. However the main focus is NOT on graphics.

Alrik Fassbauer September 13th, 2009 11:03

I wish you lots of good luck, GG ! :)

If you need help, you can ask me (no guarantee given), but I don't quite know what I might be useful for. ;)

Testing, perhaps. I often do things I don't often think others do. ;)

Or philosophy. ^^

Then creating a lore in the game world would be really cool for you, I guess ;) But I don't know who Gothicness is looking for.

Alrik Fassbauer September 13th, 2009 11:22

Yes, I had a similar thought. ;)

Corwin should then be involved, imho, because of the background for some dialogs. It doesn't sound too good if things look like as if they had been grafted or engrafted afterwards, so to say.

I rather think that a "living" background is imho relatively important - Tolkien is my ideal in that ;) , although I know that I'll never get this far, ever. ;)

Pladio September 14th, 2009 23:22

Maybe you'll find this useful: http://rampantgames.com/blog/2009/09…ncounters.html

GothicGothicness September 15th, 2009 08:16

Yes, that was good, I already considered this, Tactica: Maiden of Faith will have a lot of variety in the encounters. Even some things which is not mentioned on his list :) I also got some new ideas from reading the list!

Minotic September 21st, 2009 19:14

Nice to see you start a project like this! I will follow this forum for sure. =)

Do you have the basic story for the game finished yet?

GothicGothicness September 21st, 2009 20:05

Yes the basic story is finished, but I cannot tell or it will be a spoiler :(

Let us just say it will be full of HARD choices to make ( not whatever to request a kiss or not from a barmaid *pun* intended ), and it will be about problems which are very relevant today,, kind of like in Ultima 7 if you know that game. It will also be full of things of more lighthearted and humorous nature to not make it too hard to bear….

skavenhorde September 23rd, 2009 12:14

Awesome, just plain awesome. GG, you already sold me and I don't even think you're that far along yet. Oh well, as they say "good things come to those who wait."

In my opinion, balance is the essence.

As everyone knows, I'm against too dark games … ;)

Amasius September 26th, 2009 17:28

Why have I never before heard of this? I usually don't read the forums, only the news and I don't think that I've ever before read anything about it. Also it isn't in the game database yet. To early in development I guess? Anyway, I like the little I've seen so far a lot and will keep an eye on it. Good luck with the project. :)

GothicGothicness September 28th, 2009 11:04

Thank you Amasius all the support we could get means a lot! We are still fairly early in development, and one of the reasons for this forum is also so we can get a lot of feedback and ideas from the community here. I will post screenshots/info/demos etc etc as development proceeds. Whatever or not RPGWatch wants to place it in their database and give some coverege on other parts of the site is entirely up to them. I am already very grateful for the oppertunerty of feedback this forum gives me! So big thanks to the RPGWatch team for that :D

Minotic October 17th, 2009 19:04

You got me too GG, i'd love to see the first screenshots come in on this forum.

Do you guys work on the game next to your day time activities such as work and study?

Corwin October 18th, 2009 00:36

I work on writing dialogue whenever I can find a few spare minutes between doing stuff here, helping out with U6P, and of course the varied claims of RL!! :)

azraelck October 18th, 2009 19:40

What is this RL you mention? Is it downloadable?

:D

October 18th, 2009 20:05

I think it's an unofficial server. Buggy, as far as I know. And a resource hog.

azraelck October 19th, 2009 03:40

Must be referring to a version of Windows then. Windows RL.

GothicGothicness October 19th, 2009 08:45

We try to work as much as we can, sometimes it is frustrating that it doens't progress so fast as we want. Most of us have studies/work/other activities on top of working on the game.

Corwin October 19th, 2009 08:57

For example; I've spent most of 2 days compiling data for the Compendium for the U6 Project. I still have to check and compare every spell in the game to make sure it matches what's in the Compendium and there are several changes from the original game which have to be dealt with. This is only ONE small, minor task, but it's taken me 2 days and I'm still not finished with it. Part time game work goes VERY slowly. Anyone want to pay us all to do this full time!!!! :)

Minotic October 20th, 2009 11:18

I can imagine it takes lots of free time. I always find it strange how some people can complain if they, for instance, found a bug in the U6 remake. People don't seem to understand what has been done to get some project finished. Therefor keep up the good work and show something when you are ready.

Oh and another example that comes to mind, the next book from George R.R. Martin. He promised it would be finished about 4 years ago, but he is still writing. Let him write and make it as good as he can, imho.

yes, but there is time, and then there is time. You change over time, I bet there are many things that you have a different mindset now than what you had 5 years ago. The danger with writing (books, or software) is that you start spending more and more time changing things you already did than finishing the job. That's why it's important to have a clear end. A set time in which you force yourself to leave done stuff done, and just concentrate on what's not done.

GothicGothicness October 20th, 2009 16:07

Exactly wolfing… just look at dukenukem waiting forever… finally the project went down the drain… that's exactly what happen if you keep redesinging and changing things for too long… it is another thing altogheter if you keep adding things… but in that case it might be almost impossible to test and get it bug free though.

crpgnut October 20th, 2009 17:03

Are we talking about Age of Decadence now? :D

azraelck October 23rd, 2009 02:53

No, Grimoire. :P

Agreed, I know how hard it is to work on a game. Especially alone.

Nothing gets done fast.
