I've seen it in many other games before so to me it's almost standard by now

I know, but when there is a radial menu presented I got stupid and assumed those were the only options!

no, it's more of a 'destroy' than 'drop', or maybe it's a 'drop' and some of those stupid rat demons get a hold of them faster than you can blink :)
