This isn't the game's silliness - this is mine.. - I think I'm addicted.. - in spite of having lots and lots of other untouched games waiting, I'm poised on the brink of starting another playthrough… :-/

I'm going thru withdrawal symptoms..-HELP!!! :S

Thrasher December 23rd, 2009 12:11

Wow! I'm still working on my first playthrough. Doubting I'll replay, but if I do, I'll pick up with my human noble rogue.

I imagine there'll be too much repetition for my liking.

RivianWitch December 23rd, 2009 17:01

Well, at the end of my playthrough there was still a lot of spells left untried, that I'd really wanted to try out. And since I got the Arcane Warrior unlocked but never got around to actually using it, I'll be aiming for that in my next playthrough.

I am going to try and wean myself for a bit now, since I've really been wanting to try out FO3's DLC, as well as King's Bounty and Majesty 2, as well as Dvinity 2, which I've started already..- but… so far it seems rather flat compred to DAO… :p

Zloth December 28th, 2009 03:29

Actually, the arcane warrior did lead to some silliness for me and my bald character. When you do the phase out thing you become see-through, like a ghost. This looks fine from the front but looks terribly silly from the back. At least when there's no hair or helmet, you can see right through your head, which lets you see the backs of your eyes, nose, and mouth. They do NOT look right. Not right at all!

P.S. Wean yourself?? You do realize that Mass Effect 2 is less than a month away? What if you don't get your 2nd playthrough done before that comes out? And don't forget Star Wars: The Old Republic. It's got to go beta sometime soon!

Hmm. Methinks I'll dump the idea of doing the FO3 DLC right now, then. I'll just quickly do as much of Div 2 as possible out of curiosity, and see how it goes…-but!
mark my words..- ME2 will be delayed..- I mean it just has to be - they simply cannot break with tradition and have it out in time, can they now? ;)

Heh - well, see - Venetica is keeping to tradition for one… DTP Entertainment

Not really silliness, but I like the "sound-like" names like Chastind (Chastened) and Brecilian forest ( to me sounds like Brazilian forest.)

This name could have its origin from the Brocéliande forest which is a myth forest of the Arthurian legends but also a forest localized in French Britain, one of the name used for this forest is Brecilien.

Interesting, - thanks Dasale.
Talking of "sound like" stuff in the game, of course there's also
Arl = Earl, Ser = Sir; Bann = Baron

Btw, I'd been wondering about the "Teyrn" title, so I looked it up, and apparently:
"Teyrn" is also an actual real world title, being the Welsh for "petty king," or "tyrant." ; or "sovereign", according to other sources.

Interesting also that they called the neighbouring country with French customs and citizens with French accents, "Orlais" , with a capital called "Val Royeaux"… XD

Ferelden does seem rather Medieval British with its Chantry and a similar structure in its aristocracy.

Dasale January 3rd, 2010 16:41

Ban was a political title in Middle Age France meaning a grant of power to command men. But that's not necessarily the source of DAO Bann.

Ferelden nor Chantry haven't necessarily their origins from Medieval British. For example Ferel is a French Britain town and Den in French Britain language means Man or Humanity, when the Medieval British equivalent could be more Dyn (well in Welsh). I don't say that those are the source of the names used in DAO, just that their origin isn't that obvious. Also Knights was French and strong merge of Political and Religion was stronger in France during some time.

We can provide further release date - such as for UK and other territories - soon.
So hopefully we'll hear something "soon."

In one playthrough during a trist with Allister (?sp) my female decided to leave on her full dragonplate. Talk about safety, she was not taking any chances, even the helmet stayed on.

JDR13 January 3rd, 2010 23:14

In the market in Denerim, I came across a book that was a parody of Green Eggs and Ham by Dr. Suess. It was apparently written by the Paragon Seuss.

*Edit* Found a link to it.

Heh - that must have been…-uncomfortable-… (not to mention pretty anti-immersive.. :P )

Love the Seuss reference and all the other cute Easter eggs strewn about, thnx for the link, JDR13. This is really a game that you need to take your time with…

Two nice things happened last night while I was playing:

1. In a random encounter I encountered a couple who were standing next to a meteor crater and wondering how a little boy could have survived the crash. Then they said they were to take the boy home and raise him as their son… superman anyone?

SPOILER ALERT:

2. In denerim: When I rescued the queen from her cell I got the option to say: "Aren't you a little short for a guard?" (stormtrooper, star wars IV a new hope). The weird thing was that she looked really really tall. Much taller than my little elf mage. And if it were to be correct she should've asked ME if I was too short for a guard… Oh well, it put a smile on my smile.

I can't believe I didn't notice that.

RivianWitch June 6th, 2010 22:32

Heh, canyoubelieve that I'm replaying my DA with a mage, so i can unlock the Blood Mage specialisation and take that with me to Awakening?

I started Awakening with my dual-wielding warrior, but it just seemed to easy, and I've been wanting to try out a 3-mage combo anyway.

So in my entire first playthrough I never found the Superman thing, and here i get it close to the beginning, totally out of the blue with this mage playthrough. It was a nice surprise, because i'd always wondered about it after seeing it mentioned here. :)

Dasale June 13th, 2010 13:42

What's the Superman thing? Myself I played first Awakening with a character imported from DAO, a 2H fighter, Berserk and Blood. And for a Nightmare difficulty it wasn't a Nightmare difficulty from far. But Nightmare difficulty was liek a good Normal difficulty for me. Well apart in the last fight and the big dragon fight.

When I tried replayed, this time with a new character, a mage, I end in feeling the game too hard and felt that I was more limited in character class choices (ie spells and specializations chosen) and had perhaps choose a wrong build. It's weird but I gave up and didn't think try lower the difficulty to more standard setup.

EDIT: About Superman, Ha the meteorite thing. I don't like much those out of context references, in any game, I felt them either poor humor either mood breaking.

EDIT2: For mention there's a mod that unlocks all DAO specializations, it can be handy.
