Dragon Age: Silliness
Funny stuff in the game - intentional and otherwise…
One of the hints at the top of the loading screen when going into a new area: "When in doubt, go for the eyes!" (Yeah, I might try that if I had a minature giant space hamster on the team.) Yeah, I guess you could call this a simple haircut. |
After a certain part of the game that required new clothes to be worn, and because one of my characters original equipment could only be equipped in a certain order (stats requirement). The game failed to re-equip the character and the ensuing serious conversation was interrupted by the individual standing in just his pants with his sword strapped to his back.
|
I liked the part of the game that required no clothes to be worn!! :)
|
I think the Mabari war hound literally marking his territory is kinda silly! It's cool tho in a way, how they implemented it - the hound marking his territory gives him bonuses when fighting on that map, since he's the dominant or "top dog".
Pretty cool and well thought out - yet a little bit silly. I like it! |
You'll also find quite a few WoW/MMO references.
Spoiler – Example |
I just had the random encounter where you come across an older couple as they find a baby in a meteorite.
A very obvious reference to Superman. |

Did you take the meteorite to a smith yet and have it forged? I've been wondering what can be made with it.

I thought it was funny and a direct wink of an eye to the player, when you intercept/run into another adventuring party (that are delivering a message about a blood mage to the Chantry) and intimidate them to not finish their quest, the leader says "we were only doing it for the experience" (or something like it).
|
Not really silliness, but I like the "sound-like" names like Chastind (Chastened) and Brecilian forest ( to me sounds like Brazilian forest.)
|
NWN2 actually had another adventuring party that you could mentor and they would head out on adventures. That was great!
BioWare's running joke with the "venture forth" bit still gives me grins. Two or three more games with jokes like that and it will make up for the painful memories of BG's dreaded "you must gather your party before venturing forth" messages. <shudder> |
*cough* Gaxkang *cough*
|
Not sure if folks heard this but you often had your main say "my warden sense is tingling" aka spiderman.

Never heard that….I think the various races/backgrounds say different things. |
Shale when waking up from "unconsciousness" : " *Sigh* Being out in the rain for so long must have slowed me down."
and, to Wynne: "What does the old mage say?" upon which Wynne replies: "I wish you wouldn't define me by my age." Shale's retort: Ok, then ; what does the fussy mage say?" Wynne: " *Sigh* . I give up." |
Heh, and more Shale. I can't remember exactly how he was irritating Morrigan, whom he calls the "Swamp Witch", but he was working on her nerves and wouldn't back down. Of course, Shale has a holy hatred of birds, and always wants to hunt them down and squish them. (See the chicken he squished?)
..so when he really irritates Morrigan, she starts going: "Shall I turn myself into a bird? You know, I can do that…" upon which Shale quickly backs down: "Ok, ok, sorry, I won't say another word. Just forget I said anything… " (or something to that effect) |

I brought Oghren along in my party's trip into the Deep roads and Morrigan was complaining of him been smelly, dirty mouth (asking her ever shape-shifting when doing "it" and how it feel…), and annoyed at him of pawing her by deliberately tripping himself when travelling along.
|
|
ROFL ROFL More Shale: "May I ask the elder mage a question?"
Wynne: "Must you always refer to me according to my age?" Shale: "Well, then : mage past her time; - don't mind the saggy bits, may I ask a question?" :XD: |
Well, here is something that happen to me.. I was on a quest in Brecilian Forest, some evil mages had kept up their neighbour, whit loud music, yelling, demonic sacrifice, you know the deal. As I was going through the forest, whit my merry band of follows, I was seeing a group of elf, looking like they had seen to many dragon age trailers (the bad ones), doing the happy dance around a alter, obvious high on deep mushrooms.
So I decided to talk to the Mary Manson clones, before I gutted them (in fact the game left me whiteout no much choice!), their leader then explained that he intended to send me off the planet, by putting a fireball up in my ass! (not his exact word, but you get the point). It’s was here it begun to go very, very bad! To my big surprise, was my comrade of arms, decided to engage in a big group hug just behind my back?!? (normal they bitch at each other all day long), before I could act, me and the huggers was court in a Cone of Cold, followed a few second later by two Fireballs… on the plus side, the lonely survivor was not frozen anymore, not because that did him much good. Thanks god fore the load function, so a little later we approached the mages again, this time I thought, lets try to use a little tactic, so I placed my follows scattered out in tactical places and I went over to talk the freaks, cursing the game on my way fore not let me break up their party, whit a few long distance spells. I got the usual speech, and the fight begun… To my even bigger surprise, yet again my follows was suddenly standing behind my back, and did the hug thing?!?!?? Only some quick reflex from my side, prevented another disaster, soon there after the mages laid dead and looted, and I headed out to find a cliff, I could throw my follows out from… (Sorry fore the gramma, are Danish) |
The above story, is why I always put my "hold" function on in advance when I suspect that any hostilities are going to take place.
…and if it will make you feel any better Phonix, I've had Wynne kill my entire party, including herself, with a fireball before.. |
They still cluster behind you - Bioware isn't going to allow any sneaky "I saw what happened in my last play-through so I'm going to stand behind the ambush source" tactics. I don't know what's with the group hug thing, though they do often run in odd directions.
I managed to catch the superman reference on video: http://www.wegame.com/watch/dragon-age-kal-el/ |

Here's a good one…

yeah, my Mabari found some dirty pantaloons over in redcliffe this weekend!
|
I've not bothered with the dog much (more of a cat person). What's this loot they find and how do I make them find it?
|
Just initiate conversation with him, and then select "Do you see anything interesting?" He'll run of and find something in the area, if there's anything to be found.
|
Note that what he finds isn't always silly. He's found a staff for my mage on one of his early expeditions. At the time, it was the best staff I had.
|
Yeah, there´s also a part of a very good armor set only he can find.
As for the silliness (spoilers): Dragon Age 2 Twins |

I see you figured out the 4th summons. ;) |

Btw, I was pretty sure I did everything in the Tower during the rescue operation and discovered this only thanks to a certain smuggling business I was having trouble with much later. |
I had more trouble with the silly demon summoning part (the one that drops Yusaris) - there is no way of seeing that you actually "click" a statue (other than not being shot by lightning). Took me ages to realize that "nothing" was the indication that I had done something right.
4th summoning:

I know this isn't "silly", but anybody else notice a lot of nods to Oblivion, especially in the darkspawn areas? Like the "fleshy sacs" with loot in them?
The ghosts and some of the dungeons also reminded me of Oblivion. |
Yeah, and the fleshy things did remind me of Oblivion. I bet the stuff we get out of there has a heck of a stink.
|
When I maxed Alistair's approval with my male elf, he now says "yes, love" when I give him a command. I was a bit taken aback… ;)

I really hope that's a bug. |
Hehe, likely is. My female elf got called "sir" on a few occasions, particularly near the end.

It's a bugger of bug.. Now that's what I call polish! ;)
