It seems to me that what you are dreaming of, it's more an Adventure Game than a RPG. If anything, older cRPG (from the '80 & '90) had far less world-building and story than the more recent ones.

I had the same problem. I googled it and it's now fixed. You just have to delete a DLL file in your game folder. It was certainly annoying but I'm glad there's it's an easy fix.

Yeah, it's not that bad. I just thought it was distracting, tedious and annoying. I think it might have been an even better game without it. Still, the game remain truly excellent.
