Or even so that the hero's group can be splitted between both battlefields: In both, then, the enemy's troops have become "lighter" because of the hero's groups' effort, but they haven't been completely eradicated)."

Interestingly, I've written a convo scene for the game which does precisely that; make you decide whether to go to one area, another, or split your forces. This can affect not only the outcome of a battle, but your party relationships.
If God said it, then that settles it!!
