BG did have some closed off areas at the start of the game, but from the outset, you could access something likeq 60% of the game area at first? That's still huge. The main storyline was linear, but you could do it largely at your own pace. And you could also go back and access just about any area at any time you wanted. Remember even the original Pool of Radiance was somewhat like that. It seems like lots of great RPG's were like that. That formula provides more enjoyment than the structure of either of the Neverwinter Nights games. Especially NWN 2. That game is too linear.
