The "I Just Bought" thread

Needless to say, I'm quite happy with it. I've called it "Rammstein 2" (since the old one was christened "Rammstein".

LOL, considering that "rammstein" can be interpreted / translated as "ram stone" or "ramming stone" !

I bought Anachronox on Steam. Heard it's another sleeper gem of a game. No clue when I'll get around to it but at least I got it super cheap :).

Pros:
1. Superb story
2. Superb music
3. Endless respawns - but you won't get annoyed as you won't revisit areas much
4. TB combat
5. Interesting minigames
6. Impossible to port onto phones

Cons (just one):
1. Badly dated graphics

It's one of the best games I've ever played. If whoever holds rights "fixes" only graphics and leaves everything else untouched, you'll see a new bestseller.
The game is not short by any means, but the ending is left open (although you win) and it just cries for a sequel.

One thing more about mobrespawns - the game is designed smart so no matter how much you grind deliberately (exit and enter areas to trigger respawns), you won't profit from it. In fact if it was remade without respawns it'd be even better.

Why it wasn't a bestseller back then?
Because of Daikatana.
If you're not sure what I mean by that, check sales of an upcoming Ubisoft game after what they did with Watch Dogs.

I'm not sure what you're talking about with Daikatana and Ubisoft, but the rest of your post sounds good :D. Thanks!

Daikatana was the title Romero threatened with to have our balls on a plate when we see it. It was supposed to be the game of the century, the best thing ever, a revolution in video games!
You saw Daikatana? Played (at least a bit)?
If you did, would you instabuy the next game that had any connection with his studio? Yea, neither did meany people. Everyone thought Anachronox is just as bad if not worse.

Ubisoft on E3 vid in 2012 shown Watch Dogs for the first time and we got the game about a month ago.
Oh, it is an eyecandy, trust me, it is. But it's NOT what they promised. They deliberately dropped down the graphics quality on PC!

A proof? Some modder found all those files and unlocked them!
Why did Ubisoft do that? Because it's a "nextgen" game. Imagine furious console buyers who'd discover that yet again, when it comes to graphics - PC still rules!

Oh and… They've made an official statement that they did that because it could affect the performance. Or in other words - they call us, gamers, buyers - IDIOTS.
See, there is a certain game out there, you've probably heard about it, it's called The Witcher 2. Yea, if you turn on ubersampling to get better graphics, it can affect your machine performance. Honestly it can. But did they lock the option out? Of course not! It's there so we can use it as we see fit. Or… When we buy a supercomputer. ;)

Will you buy the next eyecandy promise from Ubisoft? On PC?
Well, be my guest. I will not. Unless ppl say it's just as advertised.

Since I came up on a few bucks in my pocket lately, I decided to pick up a few more games to add to my massive backlog :).

So I bought a boxed copy of Drakensang Complete (both Drakensang games + the expansion), a boxed copy of Wizard's War Chest (Etherlords I & II but more importantly, Evil Islands, which someone recommended to me), and a boxed copy of Konung: Legends of the North, the first Konung game (I'm having a blast with Konung 2!).

Got them all pretty cheap, and they are the first additions to my new "boxed copy RPG" collection :).

Okay, I work on pcs for a living so the last thing I want to do is build my own. Recently, I won $8,000 at a local casino, so I picked up a new pc from Ibuypower. Here are the stats for the builder folks out there. I'm sure I could have built this myself for $300 less, but I didn't care about that :) It was $1558 with shipping.

I have a Creative Labs Audigy card that is about 10 years old that has been in my last 3 computers. Is there really any reason to upgrade from this? I also have a Cambridge Soundworks sound system that is a subwoofer and 4 satellites. I had bought a Bose system with my last new pc, but I ended up boxing it up and sending it back after comparing the old Cambridge set.

Nice piece!

And IMO no, there is no reason to upgrade audigy assuming you're not into hone sound studio business and unless it "breaks".

The card is old but it still seems to be going strong. I only use the card for the games and listening to Pandora.

Even more off topic: One of the things I really love about the 2014 Chevy Impala is that it has Pandora as an option. That allowed me to drop SiriusXM once the trial period was over.

I just bought a PSP 2000 … :)

I also picked up component AV cables so I can hook it up to my television, as well as a 32 GB SD card. I plan on using custom firmware as well. Should be fun :)

My PS4 Wireless Headset arrived, and it's cool. I resumed playing the Last of Us with them, and man, do they make a difference. I resumed it right in the hotel cellar, when you have to get that keycard and then face incoming onslaught. And man, sound design is amazing in The Last of Us. Those amazing drum kicked in, and I was just tense as hell. I actually hear stuff I didn't hear before. I can actually hear Joel's heavy breathing.

And the surround sound greatly enhances everything. It's simulated, but it's pretty nicely done. And spatial awareness, when comes to sound in this game, is just amazing. And talking about things I never heard before, I love sneaking through grass and hearing the actual leaves spreading. It probably was there in my speakers, but I never actually heard it. Somehow, the sound based on distance is greatly improved using the headset.
