Dark Quest 2 has been released on Steam. If you are a fan of the Hero Quest boardgame it might be worth checking out.

About This Game

Dark Quest 2 is a turn based RPG inspired by legendary board game Hero Quest. The game features a party based system where you control a group of heroes, an isometric hand-drawn art style, dice based mechanics and much more.

Each map is designed to take you through an adventure that will test your party's strength, courage and sanity as you go deeper and deeper into the castle in search for the chambers of the evil sorcerer.
Features
• Single-Player Campaign: Play a story driven campaign that takes you through a series of adventure on your epic quest to defeat the evil sorcerer.

• Map Editor: Create new adventures and distribute them through steamworks

• Multiplayer: Play together with your friends and complete the campaign cooperatively!

• Turn Based Mechanics: Every turn each of your heroes in your party can take one single action. Play wise and carefully or fall captive in the eternal prison of the sorcerer.

• Skull of Fate: In the darkest dungeons of the castle, when left with no hope your last and only way out will be to roll the skull of fate and reveal your twisted fate.

• Assemble a Party: Control a group of heroes each with their own personality and strengths. Use the unique strengths of each character and work together to defeat the minions of the evil sorcerer.

• Enter a world of fantasy and adventure: Explore twisted mazes, find hidden doors and fight bloodthirsty orcs!

• Village: Stay with the old masters and learn new powers, craft new weapons and mix potions that improve the capabilities of your heroes.

Looks like a huge graphics overhaul from the first game. Great atmosphere. Count me in.

The first one? Simple I’m sure. It was on mobile. I didn’t play it just recall seeing it.

Well it stands at 81% now which is pretty good. I did read the one early access review (54 hours played) that had some thoughtful criticisms. I’d say calling it a small, simple crawler vs a sprawling epic with lots of mechanical depth is fair. Some of those other negative reviews showed .4-3 hours played which I filter out. At $7.99 it’s something I’d grab for the commute. I spend about 2.5 hour a day on a train so I’m waiting for the IOS release.

It looks rather simple and boring to me... I'm surprised at the interest in it. Now if someone would bring Mage Knight to life as a digital board game, I'd be interested.

Can't blame you there. I don't have experience with this game but I decided to look into the free "Arcane Quest" which uses the same system and it was a pretty frustrating experience. The dice system isn't documented anywhere and yet they show the rolls on screen. When I reached out to the community and the developer all I got was idiotic responses on what the dice even mean. If no one can articulate the game system what is the point of playing it. More importantly why would a developer spend so much time implementing a system and then not bother to communicate it. Unless you are one of the few that have played Hero Quest and recall the dice system it is sort of pointless to play this as it doesn't reach out to new players at all.
