I'm a fan of Salvatore, he is the best alternative to the big, epic fantasy novels (Martins, Jordan, etc). Very good reading when I'm travelling and need something to read on the plane.

I can imagine Salvatore being far better at writing video games than some of the bigger authors out there. Martins, for example, would probably write a story arc so big it would take a decade to develop the game.

Edit:
That being said, writing a novel is not the same as writing a video game. I have no doubt that Salvatore will succeed, but I don't think we should be expecting the next Planescape: Torment here (in terms of writing).
