The ever-popular "Currently Listening" thread

It gets worse. I guarantee. :)

Came over here to inflict the twangy video version of those C & W Sarah Palinly descriptive lyrics I posted the other day in the P&R forum--for those masochistic and/or drunk enough to want to check it out--only if you are somewhere where no one you know can see or hear you-- but what with the Paul & Art reference, have to post this one where Artie is blasted out of his mind:

The Boxer
As well as a rather timely one from Paul, solo:
American Tune

Now everybody needs a drink... ;)

Right now I'm listening to this, and I think it deserves to be quoted in full:

Leonard Cohen said:
"Democracy"

It's coming through a hole in the air,
from those nights in Tiananmen Square.
It's coming from the feel
that this ain't exactly real,
or it's real, but it ain't exactly there.
From the wars against disorder,
from the sirens night and day,
from the fires of the homeless,
from the ashes of the gay:
Democracy is coming to the U.S.A.
It's coming through a crack in the wall;
on a visionary flood of alcohol;
from the staggering account
of the Sermon on the Mount
which I don't pretend to understand at all.
It's coming from the silence
on the dock of the bay,
from the brave, the bold, the battered
heart of Chevrolet:
Democracy is coming to the U.S.A.

It's coming from the sorrow in the street,
the holy places where the races meet;
from the homicidal bitchin'
that goes down in every kitchen
to determine who will serve and who will eat.
From the wells of disappointment
where the women kneel to pray
for the grace of God in the desert here
and the desert far away:
Democracy is coming to the U.S.A.

Sail on, sail on
O mighty Ship of State!
To the Shores of Need
Past the Reefs of Greed
Through the Squalls of Hate
Sail on, sail on, sail on, sail on.

It's coming to America first,
the cradle of the best and of the worst.
It's here they got the range
and the machinery for change
and it's here they got the spiritual thirst.
It's here the family's broken
and it's here the lonely say
that the heart has got to open
in a fundamental way:
Democracy is coming to the U.S.A.

It's coming from the women and the men.
O baby, we'll be making love again.
We'll be going down so deep
the river's going to weep,
and the mountain's going to shout Amen!
It's coming like the tidal flood
beneath the lunar sway,
imperial, mysterious,
in amorous array:
Democracy is coming to the U.S.A.

Sail on, sail on ...

I'm sentimental, if you know what I mean
I love the country but I can't stand the scene.
And I'm neither left or right
I'm just staying home tonight,
getting lost in that hopeless little screen.
But I'm stubborn as those garbage bags
that Time cannot decay,
I'm junk but I'm still holding up
this little wild bouquet:
Democracy is coming to the U.S.A.

Didn't think I could tear up again this morning but that hits the perfect note I think. My memories of Leonard Cohen go back to a smoky den in a galaxy far away with my hippie cohorts listening to Suzanne, (whose 'place by the river' we once all tried to live in, and maybe part of me still does. )

Thanks for posting.

In honor of PJ's heartfelt submission, I'm obligated for a properly snarky bit of silliness on behalf of cold-blooded and mildly irritable conservatives across our great nation: :D

Mr. Julian Cope

For me today, excellent gazer fare. Clips for this group can be rather misleading since you lose the full presentation. There isn't a complete link for the appropriate tunes, so I'll go with clips and a related video:

This is just too goofy to pass up. There are shorter clips with better sound, but this is the only one that includes the violin from the cd, which adds quite a bit to the atmosphere, IMO. Ya gotta listen close to the lyrics.

I'm probably Stadler (the right). He's got the drier sense of humor. Plus, that's probably the direction my hair will go after a few more years with the Wild Dogs. ;)

Yeah, theyre pretty cool, jammin out to them right now while i work.

Kinda bummed tho, me and jessica's first schedule conflict has arisen - i want to go to the show tomorrow to see dragonforce/turisa/powerglove, she doesnt. Theyre too heavy for her, and something's on cable she wants to watch ("Legend of the Seeker" based on Goodkind's Sword of Truth series).

should i stay behind w/ her, or go myself, hmmm... decisions decisions....

Ditch her! Absense makes the heart grow fonder, and all that...

What did you think of that Voltaire, Sammy? I thought that should fit into your goth-abilly taste.

I'm with dte, Sammy--go for the concert. One of my best old men once bought me ONE ticket to a Gordon Lightfoot concert--I'm sure you can imagine why--win/win. :)

Been checking out an old tape while cleaning house prior to the grandson dropping by for a harrowing overnighter--
The Who EminenceFront
One of my personal Who faves Athena

And from the old days some Tom Petty:

Last Dance

I need to come back and listen to some of the newfangled-dy tunes from you weirdos--I may need them after chasing a hyperactive five year old for two days...;)

I don't know but I bin told/ya never slow down ya never grow old...
O my my o hell yes honey put on that party dress...
