Virus Warning

Since there is no one else mentioning this I'm starting to wonder if I'm the only one that gets this warning. I bought Precursors from GamersGate.

Right now I have Avira warning me that Precussors has two viruses in it. VELoader.dll and Vital.dll are giving me trojan alerts. I sent these files to virustotal to find out what the heck is going on. Here are the reports: VELoader.dll and vital.dll

Since only 4 different anti-virus software found the virus in VELoader.dll and 3 for the other I'm thinking this is a false positive due to the NOCD crack GamersGate used. I get something similar when loading FR:UA front end. FRUA doesn't have a virus, but it looks like one to these dang things.

Anyways, that is what I'm hoping this is since no other software is reporting a trojan or anything else wrong on my computer.

Let me know if anyone else had this problem with Precursors.

It sho nuff` looks like a false alert....

I don`t have any antiviral things on my gaming machine, but would hear from my laptop if any trouble. Also have this two files with my Russian version, they look, uh vital ;)

Thanks for the confirmation. I was pretty sure it was nothing, but it doesn't hurt to ask.

Now if only AntiVir would listen to me when I say "IGNORE" and "NOTE ACTION SELECTED FOR THIS FILE", but noooooo it wants to warn me every single time I play this game.

Fact one:
Gamersgate "stole" warez crack for Russian unpatched game.

Fact two:
Usually warez groups pack their files so it's difficult for someone else to "steal their code", or their method of cracking protection.

Fact three:
Sometimes such packing is falsely detected as virus, since some viruses use similar packing.

They stole it? Seems odd that Deep Shadows or someone there wouldn't offer one up themselves. Must have had some kind of problem with them to resort to stealing someone's crack.

Yes, that's odd. But DeepShadows may have been in financial trouble. They also broke all contact with community at the end of 2009, after release of Russian version of Precursors (as I have heard).

It's also odd that GamersGate version is unpatched, although there is a patch for Russian version.

Plus, "crack" for patched 1.1 version of the game doesn't exist (there is different workaround, but it's not technically a crack). Maybe another reason why GamersGate opted for unpatched release.

P.S.
My personal guess is that Deep Shadows had nothing to do with GamersGate version of the game, exempt maybe giving some localization tools to the Russian publisher, who passed them to GamersGate.

Avira and Antivir have many false reports which is one of the reasons why I stopped using them. Pretty much all antivirus apps have false reports but after going through many different programs I found Avast to be the best one of them all so I recommend that one.

GamersGate uses a cracked version of 1.0. Yuplay comes patched to 1.1.

The Russian version 1.1 crack is indeed not a crack, but uses the files from the yuplay version and a keygen. The files included with the patched cracked version are identical to the yuplay files. The yuplay 1.1 uses starforce offline activation. The crack is just the keygen.

The other work around is a mounted image of the disc and dameon tools.

Thus I would suggest buying the game from yuplay as it is the most legitamite and complete version.
