Not surprised knew it would be a combination of those three games. So congratulations to Owlcat Games as this is probably one of the few they have won this year.:celebrate:

Also this is the second year the staff & member picks are almost the same. Cant for the other 2019 games poll to see the top three as the picks were more fragmented.

Update: I notified OwlCat lets see if they respond.

Yep I just visited the games forum and read your post.^^

I just emailed them and posted a link on Steam.
Free Pathfinder for the whole forum
Would make a good raffle for the site.
Boring. Was hoping for a out of the left field surprise.
Atom, Kenshi or Vampyr would of been a nice surprise, but usually on GOTY polls the games that win are the ones played by the majority. Usually smaller games don't win.
All other games scored a percentage of less than 1.5%. And for the record, Pathfinder had 26% of the points, Pillars of Eternity II 20% and Kingdom Come Deliverance had 15%.

Making a buggy mess GOTY sends the wrong message, IMO.

Actually it goes quite well with all that modern gaming trend: pay for alfa/beta tests, release half made games, micro transactions, cut content for DLCs, release game now, finish later, cash shops, Pay to win, phonegamnes and what else I forgot.
So I guess the gates are open and green light is on to continue such practices.

Making an awesome fun but buggy game GotY sends a message that gamers value content over the packaging.

Pathfinder: Kingmaker is a worthy winner however I think if ATOM released earlier in the year it could of been a contender, from what I've played so far.

Owlcat has responded on social media.
A serious victory for us! The Pathfinder: Kingmaker got both "Editors' choice" and "Gamers' choice" awards as the best RPG 2018 on the RPG Watch!

Maybe but it's always a tough choice when many games come out in a year. I do know ATOM would be my fourth pick & Banner Saga 3 my fifth pick if we did a top five.

Kingmaker was buggy at release and the ending was a mess but the first 50-60 hours was a hell of a ride.

Will do a full play thru soon to see how it is now. I can overlook bugs at the beginning if the game shows potential. I think most people agree, that Kingmaker has great potential.

So my bet was correct, both the top three and their rank. Guess the odds on that outcome weren't too high though.

Congratulations to the winners, well deserved. And I strongly disagree about it being a bad year for RPG's, several of this years contenders are high up on my GOAT list. (Games of all time).

I agree @TomRon;. I didn't vote for Kenshi in my top 3, but I think its GOTY material. I have yet to play Dragon Quest or Atom RPG, but those are also supposed to be extremely good games.

I see another year of Skyrim, Fallout 4, 7 Days to Die, and The Long Dark ahead for me.

Not jazzed by anything new coming out in the future. I enjoyed the first chapter of the winner, but the game was a broken mess after that. The 2nd game I didn't play and the 3rd game was really dull imo. I spent less on gaming last year than I have in a decade and I see that trend continuing.

I'm thankful that there are so many mods available for TES 5 and Fallout 4 that I can play them year after year and always get new content. I will also grab Subnautica sometime this year. I missed that gem earlier.

My personal choice had Kingdom Come 2nd and Pillars II 3rd (i think). All good though. Happy that Pathfinder got the 1st place!
