I Do Not Like Anime

And My Little Poby, Carebears, Barbie… Uggh, sorry 'bout that. :p

And Masters of the Universe, G.I.Joe, Inhumanoids…
And Bravestarr:

But that ain't anime.

Where I was living I was actually maybe 1-3 years too young to have seen Masters of the Universe. (got the toys though second hand)

GI Joe I think might have been a US thing. I only knew it due to a game I had on the C64. Inhumanoids I never heared of.
Carebears was great though..I think ^^
I am not aware that Barbie had a Cartoon in Germany and my Little Pony I never saw either. Might not have been available in the channels we had.

What I forgot though was Dino Riders, Inspector Gadget…and Mask, but only in theory because that was cable channel (which we didnt have) so I only got the toys. ^^

Anyways, its interesting to see old cartoons today. And also see how bad some of them were.

For example Turtles is still fine, Duck Tales…well, is still ok (actually watched like 20 episodes recently), but Mask and Dino Riders…hell no. These are a horrible mess.

Not US thing, all of them (including ones you've remembering) were airing via satellite on Fun Factory during weekends and DJ Kat show during weekdays (on Sky).

Well, what can I say…didn't have it. Also be aware that we only watched localized stuff. I lived in Germany after all. If it wasnt German it didn't exist. ;)

And satellite TV wasn't a thing at first either. So as a little kid we had like 4 or 5 German channels at most (for the Germans: ARD, ZDF, RTL and maybe 2 I leave as wiggle room ^^)
I remember that we sometimes got a bad visual quality screen of dutch TV...remember that they had dutch Smurfes and Turtles there. ^^

Anyways…back to Anime. ^^

Yes, these shows were in english. I don't speak german, so can't really remember any cartoon or anime airing on german speaking channels in that time because I wasn't watching those. Have a hard time to remember what channels were available back then in german beside RTL and SAT1, could be ARD and ZDF but kill me I'm not sure any more.
Anyways…back to Anime. ^^
Deal.

Equating anime with hentai is like equating Hollywood movies with porn!
Dismissing whole of anime is like dismissing whole of Hollywood movies!

Anime is huge and naturally there are lot of crap there but so are some excellent gems. See any anime made by studio Ghibli for example.

I also don't like anime. Some people always come to me saying "oh, you haven't watched the proper animes, you HAVE to watch XXX and YYY and ZZZ and your mind will be blown, guaranteed!", I go and watch and though I recognize there may be a good story behind them, I just don't like anime. Maybe it's a psychological thing, my mind saying "this is for kids don't take it seriously" or something like that, but I don't care for it.

But I love JRPGs, I guess because I don't care much about the stories which is what matters in anime, I just want good RPG combat system (preferably turn based) and JRPGs provide plenty of that.

What people and what xxx it was? Trendchasers and Dragonball?

Sure, put kids in front of PC, fire up Netflix then let them watch Devilman Crybaby.

That reminds me, should write a few words about this one in the anime thread.

LOL no. Devil May Cry is consoley rubbish game series I have yet to understand mass hysteria about, if ever. Maybe I should get lobotomized to finally geddit.

Devilman Crybaby is based on a pretty old manga Devilman (1972) that speaks about humanity in a way Jodorowsky does in his works. Hopefully now you know what to expect there.
This new version of Devilman on Netflix (there were previous attempts on adaptation, heavily censored) is not for kids. Some later manga and anime were inspired by Devilman, most notably Evangelion.

Guess " I don't like…{insert anything}" can be a pretty good bait.
I don't like a lot of things,pretty much a lot.And what of it?
Which reminded me of an old joke.

A man was drowning in a river. And he saw a man pass by.So he screamed out for help.
-Help me,help me! I don't know how to swim!
The other man replied.
-And so? I don't know how to swim either, but I don't brag about it.

So,guess what I try to say is. If you don't like something, doesn't necessarily mean you have to brag about it. Te-he! :)

As said before, anime consists of a lot of different art styles, genres, adult/teenager target groups, etc. I definitely understand the whole (oversexed) teenager awkward romance stuff can put someone off when looking from afar, but that's (luckily) only a small subset of what it has to offer.

I'm not going to give suggestions, just look at the anime thread if you really want to try it.

I don't know, from what I remember, Death Note, Fullmetal Alchemist, another one that looked Dungeons & Dragony, etc.

It is all streamed, though.

Ok, I got a laugh out of that one.

I do watch anime, but very little of it. I have a difficult time branching out to even the most highly recommended shows like Kill la Kill because they seem to cater to a group of people that have a deep fascination for over sexualized characters with unrealistic behavior, while I'm usually left confused.

I have my fair share, but my tastes are already pretty selective as is. I most recently watched Monster and I adored it.

For a long time my favorite was Cowboy Bebop. It might still be.
