I am back playing Deus Ex HR and in the final part and loving it. I was looking for news of a new Deus Ex game in the news the other day, couldn't find anything. Can't believe they aren't doing a sequel, yet anyway. Its an awesome franchise.
In my opinion this series is a prime example of something which bothers me about the game industry, which is that often very good games like this get lambasted in the gaming press when there is an issue with the game -- it could be a buggy release, an ending which doesn't work well (and is sometimes changed), or whatever -- often rightly so (the press is just telling it like it is) but then there is so much backlash that the game company tries to distance itself.
This could in my view lead to fewer of these good games being made, and that is a damn shame.
Fortunately, after the anger settles down, if the game is good then that truth comes out over time. There are still those who hate the game, based upon those early issues, and that's fine, but hopefully the game companies sees the many of us who enjoyed the game.
Recent examples are DX: MD, Batman Arkham Knight, and Cyberpunk 2077, all of which were absolutely pilloried in the press at initial release, thought of for months as failures, but eventually either turned it around (or will in the case of C2077) to become well-thought-of games.
This is even more reason to stop releasing games until they are ready, without all of the bugs.
Okay, rant over.
