Our current DDO group played NWN mods for over 5 years together before we ran out of them and switched to DDO. Back at the Dot, we even had a dedicated NWN server which ran an assortment of PW's when we weren't using it to run a specific mod.

Those were the PW online mods right? o_O

I never played a single one in twelve years as I always played the offline mods. I did find a few that interested me, but didn't care for the players.

And I invented you guys to my server about a dozen times. Even popped on Corwin's once.

Ok, how come I don't see my well reviewed mod on their, The Girl in Ill Humour?

(in searching for it on the New Vault I noticed that HiddenX even gave a plug for to those filthy Codexers back in June).

Lucky, we didn't play a PW type mod in our regular organised sessions; we played all the specific 'story' campaigns that were released for MP. We had a PW running for all other times so anyone from the Dot could log in and play. One of those PW's was written by a Dot regular who also played with our regular group; we allowed him to beta test it on our dedicated Dot server. I was the admin for that server as well as the main DM. I didn't have time to visit any other servers!! :)

I've played on the German persistent world Hochwaldallianz for years, NWN 1 & 2. Experenced some of my best RPG moments there, including CRPGs and P&P.

I sure played the NWN mods for EOB1 and 2 from Rick Francis and I still play on a live server GondorvsMordor in a LOTR setting which is great!

Couch, you once again amaze me with your contributions. Not only this poll (which does not seem to have an option for me, unfortunately. I would be part of the camp that "hasn't played any mods yet, but plan to in the future"), but the links you posted to those mods. My goodness, man, I can't wait to try some of these!

Side note. Do you guys honestly suggesting skipping the core game and just heading straight to the mods? I've never played any NWN game yet, although I own both of them on GOG, of course. Thoughts about this? Thanks!

The original NWN1 core game was so dull for me I almost never went back to the game but the expansions were decent to good.
But the user created mods are some of the best CRPG's I've played to this day.

Just make sure you patch NWN1 up with the NWN1 Community Patch-http://http://neverwintervault.org/patch/nwn1/community-patch-171-final
tons of fixes and improvements in that patch.

Thanks Warmark! I may skip the OC and go straight to mods, but I'm thinking I will probably play at least some of the OC and see how it is, since I've never played a NWN game yet. Plenty of time for mods down the line, I suppose. :)

Your welcome Fluent I try my best but can't please everyone. Have fun playing the mods, and if you need more recommendations just let me know as I have more.

I would say it's up to you as the the original game isn't that bad it just can't compete with the expansions, and all the mods that are better then what Bioware made.

A few interviews on our site talk about why this happened.

I do recommend playing the Hordes of the Underdark expansion, and the premium mods which you can now play for free. Here is the link for the premium mods.

Also a few mods do expand the original game.

Aribeth's Revival Series - http://neverwintervault.org/search/node/Poecile
Aribeth's Redemption - http://neverwintervault.org/search/node/Vis et Virtus

I also recommend more NWN mod campaigns

Saleron's Gambit - http://neverwintervault.org/project/nwn1/module/salerons-gambit-chapter-1-5

Sorry to take this too far off-topic, but could someone kindly message me perhaps and teach me how to install a module such as Saleron's Gambit? It looks interesting but the NWN vault page has a bunch of files and I'm not sure exactly how to manage this. Any help appreciated, thank you!!

I sent you a PM let me know it if helped you Fluent.

Playing Saleron's Gambit right now and I'm quite impressed! The game looks pretty, nice atmosphere, sound, music, etc., and the combat that I'm experiencing for the first time is really cool! Oh, and character creation brought back fond memories of the Baldur's Gate series, so that was nice to see, too. Enjoying the writing and dialog a lot as well. :)

Thanks to this thread, I can see myself not playing another game for quite awhile and just diving deep into modules for this game! I just hope I have the energy to finish my Gothic 2 playthrough now! :)

Sorry to meander off-topic again, but I'm curious. HiddenX, what makes you say that Aielund Saga is one of the best cRPGs ever? Without spoiling much, can you talk a little more about it? Maybe in a private message if Couch doesn't want to clutter up this thread with random NWN mod thoughts. :)

I have no problem if you guys want to talk about mods on the thread Fluent. The Aielund Saga is one of the best mods along side Vis et Virtus as both tell a personal story.

Both of them also have good writing, and NPC companions. The mod maker Stephen L. Nowland has also written a book series based on the game setting he created.

The Aielund Saga is a multiple book fantasy set in the world of Feydwiir. You can check out the individual books in the links just above, or take a closer look at the maps of the realms within the story.
He even offers the first two books for free now.

Book 2 - http://www.smashwords.com/books/view/141379

I also have an old podcast from 2010 about his mods,
