Meh. A lot ado about nothing.

The most important thing in the update 1.1 is Fischl being given as free character.
Those who are playing the game and don't have her, she's unbelievably strong and you want her in your roster.

Prior to this update however comes an unexpected move from developer, Razor being replaced by Bennet in the ingame shop (basically when you complete almost everything in the game now before entering current endgame, you can get one character in the shop for free and those were okayish Razor or useless Amber).
Now why am I saying unexpected.
Some play Bennett as their main DPS failing to see he is one of two OP supports (the other being Sucrose). His ult lasts for 12 secs and is a circle which heals friendlies inside it, but there is another thing:
"If the health of a character in the circle is higher than 70%, they gain an ATK Bonus that is based on Bennett's Base ATK."
Those who play the game know that item bonuses can be ATK or ATK% where the latter is usually more desirable (more profitable). But on Bennet support the equipment should go ATK, not ATK%. It's the main DPS with ATK% items that profits immensly here.
It's really odd the developer decided to put him in the store and not less desirable fodder character like Ningguang.
EDIT: forgot to add, this switch will happen tomorrow.

I have Fischl and Bennet already, but I had only resources to build up Fischl. I am Adventure Rank 38 now.

My current main party:
Main char - Geo (lvl 70)
Diluc - Fire (lvl 60)
Noelle - Geo (lvl 60)
Fischl - Elektro (lvl 60)

Main supporter:
Kaeja - Ice (lvl 60)

For questing and flying:
Amber - Fire (lvl 60)

The Rest - all (lvl 40)
Bennet
Lisa
Saccharose
Xingqiu
Barbara
Xianling

Still playing without paying a dime.

:)
If you don't fall for the Gacha mechanics it is one of my games of the year so far.
Good storyline, challenging action combat, great bug-free engine, open world with a lot of exploration (gliding!) and some nice puzzles. I would pay $60 for this game, if they would sell it as a regular game without a Gacha system.
It plays like a mix between ELEX and Tales of Berseria.

This games keep on popping in various places I visit and I have dismissed as another mobile game. However if @HiddenX; is playing it then it must be half decent and I will give it try :)

I'm not personally all that comfortable getting a free ride off the back of a model that exploits kids and folks with gambling issues. But even with that aside, I would find it annoying to have to ignore aspects of the game that are deemed non-essential. I tend to be quite completionist, and it would irritate me if there were collections or whatever that I couldn't complete without their grotty gambling mechanics.

Now we know why this game is getting so much coverage here. ;)
Hopefully it's as scary to you as recent Wasteland Online coverage was to me.

Yes it's decent.

But to you and to everyone else who wants to try it:
1. Before starting decide you will not, absolutely not, buy gems. Even if it's cure for cancer. And keep your promise.
2. Default free characters are good. I'm way above Hidsen (AR41) and my general party is only those free ones everyone and their single mother gets (currently though): Xiangling (fire), Barbara (water), Noelle (earth), Kaeya (ice). For elements shuffle I got 24/7 15% resistance bonus, he runs 2 geo chars which is attack damage +15% but only when protected by a shield.

HiddenX has almost a perfect roster of characters which is 10x better than mine. Almost perfect as he doesn't have only one insane (read: OP) character.
The 5 OP characters that don't come as free ones:
- Diluc = trashmobs aggro clear made easy
- Bennett = posted already, #1 support, can be used as main DPS
- Sucrose = #2 support (won't go details why) that saves resin (alchemy)
- Xingqiu = saves resin (alchemy) but you should not level her up
- Mona = skyrocketing elemental reaction damage

Of all of these I have only Xingqiu. As it happens, and as I wrote above, while it would be awsome to have all five, not having them won't stop you from game progress.
They make fights a bit easier, but not unbeatable.
So make the promise. No buying gems! No gambling.

You can complete everything without gambling.
You can't catch all the pokemon without gambling though.

The game is rated PEGI/ESRB 12/TEEN which is horrible. This game should be rated M (mature). But if PEGI/ESRB did that, then they would have to do the same thing for all Electronic Arts lootboxesmania products. That's the problem that seems cannot be resolved without lawmaking interference.

After about 1h of messing about, I really like the look of the game. It look so pretty almost like I am actually in an anime. The combat is fun too. It feels like old Zelda games so far but I guess that what they were going for with the look of the game etc.

Or perhaps it could be resolved by not doing the shitty, exploitative thing in the first place.

Where were you when Star Trek Online added lootboxes about a decade ago and numerous players including me started calling it scam, fraud, design crime, etc?
Nowhere.

Not that players leaving out of protest that scamware product helped anything.
But blaming any developer today for adapting their business to sins of the past is kinda missing the point.
Why wouldn't a developer use proven and so far legal profitable schemes? What changed after everyone and their mother ridiculed EA exec's "surprise mechanics"? Nothing.

Lol. Not on this forum, and not playing Star Trek Online.

But don't give me all that, Joxer. The amount of shite we've listened to from you about lootboxes and MMOs, and now you've found one that tickles your fancy, and suddenly it's pointless to criticise gacha? Give me a break.

So true that would be like me starting to enjoy and praise online SP games.

And you'll continue to listen the same shitte again.
Gacha is just another name for gambling. Feel free to check this game's official forum and my posts there - instead of gacha, wish, gems I write there gambling, lootbox, casino chips and ridicule everyone and their mother who buy those. So far I didn't get banned, chinese moderators probably do not understand what am I doing. Unlike PCGamer moderators.

The game doesn't tickle my fancy. I play it because a friend of mine asked.
You believe I have no criticism? But I do.
- The game has Nintendo Gameboy 2.0 whatever it's called this new one visuals. And I don't like it. Never did.
- The story is simplistic and immature to cater to PEGI/ISRB rating. M for mature or I won't like it. And I don't.
- Chinese censorship ruins everything once again. Without all details, an example: male characters are not allowed to have earrings, even sailors can't (historically a gold earring was a necessity to pay for possible funeral).
- Trashmobs respawn, but as this is always online game, it's serverbased and happens daily. Why do they respawn? Because Dragon Dogma so good. Yea, to me it's rubbish.
- NPCs are all cretins who repeat their 2-3 lines of text.
- The game contains day/night cycle idiocy and of course the "you must be somewhere at certain time" design crime exists in here too.

Jolly good, Joxer - you keep it up. I just think it might be worth ridiculing and criticising the people who put those things in the game, and the game itself, rather than the poor schmucks that pay for them.

Those are not poor schmucks but gambling addicts who need to stay away from Genshin Impact.
And they understand what am I saying.
Can't do anything about developers as I don't speak chinese. Otherwise I would.

Right. But perhaps when some of us choose to make that criticism here, don't try to make out that we don't have standing to do so because we haven't joined you in spamming game after game with nonsense about being MMOs, phone games, and so forth.

I actually find it pretty shallow, and I like jrpgs. I really like the graphics but I find it all kind of disjointed in the storyline....even simple...
