Gaming BS of the week

Many big name Asian MMOs use anti cheat addons to prevent cheating and I remember some western mmos do too. But that is because they have microtransactions. If a game doesnt have that and has an initial cost to play, then denuvo is in the market for them. But that type of game is increasingly rare so…
Denuvo already interferes with mods on certain games look at Just Cause 3. Anyway most games with Denuvo already include a program called Easy Anti-Cheat.

Link - https://www.easy.ac/en-us/

It's a pain making trainers to cheat even in single-player with this program.

You know where the money is - when shady sites start selling certain things. Previously shady sites sold taxfree virtual currencies because those are awsome for money laundering.
What's next to help suspicious "business" money source proof? Search no more, G2A starts selling mushrooms and garbageware skins:

Anthem director's own words about less than "rich" presentation so far:
EA leadership, from the studio all the way up to the very, very top of the organization have been so supportive of this process. And we’re lucky enough to have leaders who know that developing new IP is really hard. As creators, it’s one of the most challenging and rewarding things you can do. But it is very difficult and I can honestly say, with no BS, that the process has been hugely supportive. I’m not concerned in the slightest about our marketing, we’re gonna come out and really blow the doors off this thing.
Confidence is a good thing. Living in some own world where clones of something that already sucked blow stuff… I actually feel sad for that person.

Speaking of blowing… Yakuza Kiwami 2 review on wccftech is very detailed and pretty good. But…

Oh look now SJW's are doxxing the Cyberpunk 2077 employee who posted the tweet this week. They apparently consider the apology moot and want him fired.

Yes probably political but still more Gaming BS of the week.

They blew it.

1. I want Anthem to crash and burn on release.

2. Sega better have proper PC controls for Yakuza Kiwami 2

Moving on now and thanks for the links Joxer.

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/f...-gunman-david-katz/ar-BBMtT57?ocid=spartanntp
Heavily armed agents late Sunday have entered the upscale Baltimore townhouse that belongs to the father of the gunman who opened fire during a Madden 19 NFL tournament at a restaurant in Jacksonville, Fla., killing two and injuring 11 before killing himself.

David Katz, 24, of Baltimore, was believed to have fired shots during the event at the Chicago Pizza restaurant and bar in The Jacksonville Landing, Sheriff Mike Williams said at a news conference. Williams did not speak about a possible motive.
Ooookay…
Katz has been described by witnesses and people who knew him as a gamer who erupted in anger after losing the event.
Now this is bullshit.
Millions of people play games and lose. And get frustrated and angry and whatever.
They don't "cure" it by turning into a mass murderer all of a sudden.

Instead of blaming it on games, stop selling guns to every sick bastard out there already.

https://www.vg247.com/2018/08/24/anthem-story-choices-interview/
When we were looking at developing Anthem, we wanted it to be its own thing,” game director Jonathan Warner tells me. “We felt like science-fantasy was an interesting space: the feel of it, the look of it, the power fantasy of it – that comes from a background of reading science fiction and fantasy books, reading comic books. It’s all come together in this nice little package.”

“Next week at PAX West we’ll be talking more about our story and our characters,” Warner explains. “There will be player choice. I think that Anthem, being a shared world social RPG, we’re focusing less on a massively branching story and more on making it a more personal narrative. There’s definitely choices in there that you’re making, but the focus is a little bit different for this game.”
Phone designs sell like crazy. Here's hope that will stop with this abortion.

https://www.pcgamesn.com/star-wars-battlefront-ii/star-wars-battlefront-2-droideka
The screenshot appeared in a DICE community post about the new Elite Corps Update, which is due on August 29. On the Battlefront subreddit user The Chosen One excitedly posted ‘That’s An Droideka‘ with a zoom-in on the background at the bottom right corner of the picture, which does seem to show the distinctive back of a Destroyer Droid.

Eventually in a post on Reddit the developer admits that they loaded up the scene and discovered that it was indeed a Droideka – although it was an unused static asset that somehow made its way into the backdrop. “It has zero integration into the game, meaning it is currently missing, rigging, animation, VFX, audio, abilities, UI and more.” The studio reiterated that it has “no active plans” to put Droidekas into Battlefront 2.

Fans were not happy. The post currently has around 798 comments, none of them complimentary. “Now the game’s future is even less exciting because it’s something a lot of us want and you’re confirming it’s not coming,” says user superjediplayer. “Very unprofessional, and created a lot of hype from the community which has now been crushed,” adds shrekcurry502.
I can't believe some people are still playing (and caring about) that scam. No wonder EA is making more of such garbage.

https://www.pcgamesn.com/league-of-legends/lol-sanquin-blood-moon-thresh
League of Legends players now have a new payment method they can use to pay for skins: human blood. It’s not quite a new currency, though, as it’s part of a drive to help the blood supplier of the Netherlands, Sanquin, find a new source of life-saving plasma in the veins of gamers.
Sure, it does initially feel as a good idea, but honestly do we really have to receive a skin in a game for donating blood? Just no.
Next headline: donate sperm for a card in Hentai Harem game.

Nvidia’s Big Format Gaming Displays might be delayed until Q1 2019. These gigantic G-Sync HDR gaming monitors were revealed at CES earlier this year as a follow-up to Nvidia’s also much delayed 4K HDR G-Sync monitors, and were expected to launch before the year’s up. Unsurprisingly, they are going to be incredibly expensive, too.

Culture clash: How Arkane Got Stuck Between Two Competing Ideologies.
Arkane Studios is going though an identity crisis. Best known for Dishonored and Prey, the development teams are now struggling to churn out another game in the midst of a clash between two competing cultures. The omnipresent corporate culture of Zenimax, and a fringe left intersectional ideology that is taking hold under the guise of ‘social justice’.
It's not looking good for Arkane Studios employees lately.

Immersive sims? Such wording from supposedly a developer of the best environment puzzlers is the biggest BS ever.

Yea, we all heard this before but IIRC it was coming from Microsoft or EA.

Technically, someone tried to make it work a few years ago: OnLive.

But it really feels like the big companies have been trying to return us to the mainframe era…

China wants to solve its eyesight problem by restricting video games

But this was just the beginning of the war on myopia. Yesterday, the Ministry of Education gave more detail, and announced the Chinese government would implement a number of regulatory measures to combat the health problem. One of these involved restricting the total number of online games, and controlling the amount of new online games allowed into the country. To help protect the childrens' eyes, it will also review the age-ratings system and adopt measures to limit the amount of time minors can play.
Instead of banning lessthan60 FPS garbage and lootboxes to protect… Everyone.

This statement is BS.

I still do not like the term "immersive sim" for shooters. It's to me only a new label on old bottles.

Seems rather to me as if you have never heard of what people CAN DO if they are angered ... You didn't read much newspapers lately, did you ?

There is a huge difference between angered people and angered beasts.

Angered people turn the energy excess coming from anger into defiance or something constructive - they don't demolish a room as suggested in silly Hollywood movies nor turn into a mass murderer. The defiance can lead to a destruction of items - although noone really needs anger to smash garbagestations to pieces in the middle of a crowded street and throwing a phone against the wall can be a whim caused by boredom.

Angered beasts however ignore objects completely and go bloodthirsty mode that can be cooled down only by taking lives. There is absolutely no law against selling them weapons in certain countries.

I think nobody like the term "Immersive Sims" (I know I don't), but the genre of games it refers to definitively exists.
Hope a new appellation for the genre appear on day. Warren Spector coined this one in the 90's and let just say it wasn't his best job.

"Environmental Puzzlers" is even uglier, sorry Jox…

Nothing that could be described as "immersive sim" exists.
Never heard of Warren Spector, then again, maybe he's a linguist authority with phd from Oxford.

Function and beauty or uglyness don't need to corelate. Talk to preschool children and tell them a game is an environmental puzzler. Will they instantly know what's it about? Dunno, I've never tried.
btw, I have nothing against using other word combinations for AC, new TR and Dishonored that unlike "immersive sim" would actually mean something while describing what's the game actually about.
