Gamersgate Version Audio Problems

Not as far as I remember…

I installed it in Windows 7 and the sound is fine, but it's distorted in Windows XP. All my other games on XP sound fine, but whatever. Thanks for the sound files.

UPDATE: Managed to get the sound to work OK in Windows XP by installing an older version of the Realtek audio driver. I guess newer isn't always better.....

It's the same file compressed over two archives (I think it's called "spanning"). If you open one archive, an application like Winzip will detect the other archive automatically and you will be able to extract the file without problems.

Hey folks,

Downloading the GamersGate version now. Apologies if this has already been mentioned, but the URL with FAQ about the GG version (http://board.deep-shadows.com/index.php?showtopic=1560) is offline.

Can anyone address any of the following questions?

1. Is the GG version 1.1, or 1.0? If 1.0, I am guessing I need to install the 79.6MB patch1.1.diskless version?

2. After that, should I install the folowing (and in this order)?
- cutscenes_xenus2_eng
-wgup13
-wgup14
-wgup15
(and do I need to install 13, 14, and 15, or just 15 in case it covers both 13 and 14?)

3. Then these mods/patches as needed or preferred?
-postprocess (I have 2 AMD 6970 cards in Crossfire mode)
-Subtle HUD v1.1

After all these, do I still need those White Gold sounds files that were at the now defunct Megaupload? If so, where might I find them?

Anything else I need to do to optimize and get it running? I am using Windows 7 OS.

Thanks a lot in advance~

I can answer that, because I did these patches ;). You only need the 1.5 version!

For Windows 7 I think you need to turn off "desktop composition" for this game, or at least you used to. The details are around here somewhere.

@Wesp

I possibly might also buy White Gold from Gamersgate.

So, would this order be right?

1. Download and install White Gold from Gamersgate.
2. Install Wesp's Unofficial Patch 1.6 to take care of everything else
(most recent official patch to the game, audio file fixes, any anything else Wesp fixed).

I think so. As far as I remember the 1.0.1 White Gold patch didn't include anything important…

Good to know.
And thanks for your help!

When I do buy the game, I'll test it out..

Can anyone please upload these sound files again, because looks like the file is deleted.
I have updated 1.0.1 official patch and 1.7 unofficial patch, but no weapon sound.

Thank you

All the links are dead, if someone still needs the apparent original RU soundfiles, those can be found here:

https://www.moddb.com/games/white-g...nus-2-white-gold-russian-soundpack-sounds-fix

Description
Fix for Gamersgate & Beamdog & Steam Versions Audio Problems : For installation, unpack to game main folder. Optionally, backup old gf_sounds.grp and main.fat. This will give you Russian voice files ; which fixes missing audio (gunshots, etc.) & issues with audio (sound that disappears, etc.). Cutscenes remains in english, there are subtitles for dialogues. Also, it adds a lot of voices acting.

Extract the archive and copy-paste its content into the main folder of the game.

Don't forget to install unnoficial patch from Wesp5 AFTER the sound-fix : Moddb.com

The community patch will replace all of the voice acting in the cutscenes with English voice acting. Also, it adds a lot of voices acting.
There are subtitles for dialogues.

and can be found here in Modb as well:

This is a publisher approved unofficial patch for White Gold: War in
Paradise from Deep Shadows. It works with the Russian retail copies,
online distributed Russian versions from gamepitstop.ru or yuplay.ru
and the English releases from GamersGate, Beamdog and finally Steam.
The patch is a cumulative release and includes all earlier versions!

The patch is provided "as is" and any warranties are disclaimed. The
free redistribution of the unchanged patch is permitted but it's not
allowed to use it as a base for derivative works without permission!
Thanks go to Pavel and Alex from GFI/Russobit-M, badmofo and myers90
for their utilities, and Anders und mrhtml16 for showing me the way!

Installation:
-------------
To install the patch choose the White Gold installation directory as
destination, then select the components. The registry is not changed
but it can't be uninstalled! Thanks to Jordan Russel for Inno Setup.
Install the latest official patch before using this one and although
older saves should work, it's better to start a new game afterwards!

The voice-overs of movies and cutscenes were based upon the official
English version, the graphics were created from an official trailer,
and the translation is based on the English text in the 1.0 resource
file. It was merged into the 1.0.1/1.1 version and improved whenever
appropriate, also several minor issues and gameplay bugs were fixed!

Problems:
---------
To fix graphic issues try in 'Shared Documents' ini/videooptions.ini
DISABLESHADERMODEL30=1, RENDERLAG=1, SMOOTHFPS=1 and LIMITFPS=30, to
change widescreen FOV add FOV=80. Replacing "MotionBlur" with "copy"
in postprocess/hdr.txt disables motion blur. If you perceive flicker
on ATI/AMD cards force AA in CCC or install the patch's flicker fix.

On start crashes rename cyrillic game folder, disable desktop compo-
sition and any second monitor. If a vehicle drifts disable joystick!
If game crashes on saving, move away until corpses and such despawn.
To enable the console set Enabled=1 in ENGINESETTINGS.INI, then open
it with the ~ key below ESC and use commands ADDHEALTH and ADDARMOR.

Gameplay:
---------
If you don't hear any ingame sounds and voices, download the Russian
sound pack from here: Moddb.com
paradise/downloads/xenus-2-white-gold-russian-soundpack-sounds-fix/.
The "getting cards for two bandits" mission target is a bit off, you
can buy the card deck from a passer-by moving around the whole town.

Email by Pavel Altshul from GFI on 25.01.2011: So may I kindly ask
for your cooperation? (I would take Xenus2 as an example) I’m able
to provide you with retail Russian version + unprotected .dll’s +
Russian patch 1.1. And if it possible for you to disassemble this
patch removing Russian text out of it and packing your proofread
text in, I think it will work perfectly. And end users will have
the version with performance optimization and good texts in it.
This patch will undoubtedly have credits to you in readme (or
called “Community patch 1.1 by Wesp5” if you want). Then we will
distribute it to all our partners who sell the game, noting them
that they must refer to you as its author. Is it acceptable?
Anyway, I must note that we won’t be able to call this patch
official (as it’s made not by the developers). But “supported
by Publisher”, or “approved” or equally.

Thanks for the updates! While I never played the Deep Shadows Games, I am impressed by the love and support they still get! Maybe I should try one of them…

Edit: Are you somehow affiliated to Wesp5? I like Wesp5 because of his Bloodlines modding. Bloodlines is one of my favorite games and I replay it every time Wesp5 provides a new update of his unofficial patch...

@bkrueger;,

thanks for your reply, I should have noted that there was a second page with the actual modb addy just on top of my update but a common refresher once in a while never is bad, even the importance to have the UP mentioned along to it, as this forum does not become updated about the existence of V2.1 already, so as it was my surprise when returning back after 10 years of absence.

Well, those Deep Shadow Games aren't approaching the wide mass of people playing FPS/ RPG/ open world/ sandbox but the more exploration games and similarities to those ones are hard to find on the western market. Sure Far Cry series, Stalker and Co are having some of it but not the depth and unlimited freedom, especially as met in White Gold.
Seen many people complaining about the countless bugs, hardware issues, not much support and not well done purchable versions so as the need to look around for having a half-way playable game. So as having the risk of having broken missions, plenty of glitches and the need of many hard savegames for returning back to an earlier one, in case needed.
But, despite of all that, some fans like me are getting involved deeply so as there are still many unsolved things and perhaps more mysteries and Easter eggs to discover, there is enough room to get lost but surely it is not for everybody, especially not for those rushers which are looking for money cheats and being impatient to really play it. This is not a linear game like many others and due to the fact of low quality converted versions available at Steam, GOG and Gamersgate, the Feedback is not the best either, watch Youtube movie- playing White Gold - seasick but make your own impression since the guy who made is is just another rusher and complainer who did not play much does not even know half of it.

Bloodlines - I played it twice, once the original and another time with Wesp5' great UP so as done well for WG & The Precursors, sure I will ride this one again, whenever the White Gold fever is over :) VTMBup109rc5

I am supporting Wesp5 with my White Gold posts so as checking for still exisiting bad translations and bugs, doing my part to keep this unique game on being modified, pity is that it never got the respect like others due to its RU original and relatively small fan group only.
If you plan to give it a try, there is an updated forum on Steam where new comers can get the required support, so as in here.

@bkrueger;, You are welcome so as with any further requests, playing the Steam or Gamersgate versions is not a pleasure, despite when becoming patched with OP V1.1 and Wesp5' UP but still some Hardware issues and the consecutive need for tuning the INI files so as being recommended to add ENB should be considered. When ignoring all the bugs and not being in a hurry still makes it to a long lasting adventure, provided that you are interested in exploring like eg Skyrim or Stalker.
Be prepared for a huge world with 100+ island to discover, despite of most in C/P style but each has its individuality, lotsa strange and funny things around plus some fireworks, not like in 'Mercenaries 2 - World in flames' but well tailored to this one.
