So far Ive ordered Crysis: Warhead, Mount & Blade , X3: Terran Conflict, Far Cry 2 CE (got it for only 44€ from game.co.uk before they raised their prices by 15€) and fallout3.

Naturally that covers only a small portion of games I actually do want to buy. I was planning to buy a xbox this fall but after PC games I doubt I have any money left. On my must buy list (unless reviews prove othervice) there are still:
Dark Horizon, Brothers In Arms 3, Sword Of The Stars: A Murder Of Crows, Europa Universalis III: Collections , Dead Space, Silent Hill: Homecoming, Elven Legacy , The Tomorrow War, World War One, Left 4 Dead, Prince Of Persia, Gothic 3: Forsaken Gods, Football Manager 2009/FIFA Manager 09, The Lord Of The Rings Online: Mines Of Moria ,Tiberium ,Grand Theft Auto IV, Steel Fury: Kharkov 1942 , Neverwinter Nights 2: Storm Of Zehir ,Dungeon Lords 2: Orb Of The Oracle, Jumpgate: Evolution , King's Bounty: The Legend, Borderlands, darkfall, Witp:Admirals edition and Mafia II.

I will propably wait for the prices to drop and buy most during the next year or so. Im excited to see that there are four new space sims in the list: The Tomorrow War, Dark Horizon, X3: Terran Conflict and Jumpgate: Evolution (MMORPG). Perhaps with som luck atleast one of them is actually good.

Thanks for seeing the effort to create that list. I wonder if Blizzard is really going to release Starcraft2 and Wrath of Lich King in the same month? Or if SC2 is even coming out this year? Didn't some Blizzard representative in their conventions say already they are going to release during next year?

Out of that list only these games looks interesting to me:

Witcher Enhanced Edition EUR 34.99
Mount & Blade EUR 25.49 19/09/2008
Far Cry 2 EUR 34.99 24/10/2008
Fallout 3: Collector's Edition EUR 48.99 31/10/2008
Left 4 Dead EUR 37.99 07/11/2008
Gothic 3: Forsaken Gods (Expansion Pack) EUR 20.99 07/11/2008
Borderlands EUR 41.99 28/11/2008
Mafia II EUR 34.99 26/12/2008 (propably a false date)

FarCry 2 is really a game that have surprised me. Going from being an inferior, almost ridiculous game to being an instant buy for me. In regards to Left 4 Dead then the game doesn't really appeal to me, but I'm a Valve fan and that is the only reason I'm buying it. Forsaken Gods depends upon the quality. Fallout 3 might not be something I will buy. Mount & Blade I already own. Enhanced Edition just for collector's. I'm not planning on replaying it with the upgrade. Borderlands and Mafia II I will probably also buy at some point.

Most shops dont even sell kings bounty (its not even listed in amazon). As for sacred 2 the play.com date 7/11 is the same as in other shops i.e amazon.co.uk. Gone gold is not the same as release date btw.

Also as said before all dates are not accurate - they never are for any gameshop. Somtimes they just guess release dates and then correct them when they get more information.

One of my learning experiences was when i learned that people usually say in the English language "fall" where we here just say "autumn" or "winter".

Crysis: Warhead was pretty fun. The story seemed muddled to me and there were some annoying bugs (every time I started the game in DX10 mode, I had to switch to windowed and back to full screen or the mouse was massively off whack). It was pretty short, too. But the graphics were intense and so was the action. Plus the game is only $30.

I was a bit disappointed that there wasn't a 64-bit version of the game. They had one for Crysis, why did they drop it for this stand alone expansion?

I'm very much looking forward to Fallout 3 and Far Cry 2. Dead Space and X3 are possibilities. Storm of Zehir (NWN2) looks likely. Gothic 3's expansion if the thing will even work in Vista - I have a hunch I won't be getting this game until it has gone through some patches. Borderlands looks possible. Mirror's Edge looks likely.

Oh, and GalCiv2 should come out with a big update next month, just in case I get bored. City of Heroes will still be taking up time, too, especially if I get into Issue 13 beta.

Fall is an Americanism (aparently from the Elizabeathan english of th eearly colonies and later droped by the rest of the English speaking world).

Looks like a great lineup of games, don't know how I'll find time to do anything else!

I'm definitely getting 4 out of those 5 titles. I already have Crysis:Warhead, and Dead Space and FO3 will be release day buys for me. I'll nab The Witcher EE after it goes down in price or whenever it's on sale.

Since we are producing lists;
Witcher Enhanced Edition EUR 34.99
Crysis: Warhead EUR 20.99 19/09/2008
Dead Space EUR 37.99 24/10/2008
Far Cry 2 EUR 34.99 24/10/2008
Silent Hill: Homecoming EUR 41.99 31/10/2008
Fallout 3: Collector's Edition EUR 48.99 31/10/2008
Gothic 3: Forsaken Gods (Expansion Pack) EUR 20.99 07/11/2008
Grand Theft Auto IV (GTA 4) EUR 34.99 21/11/2008
Tomb Raider Underworld EUR 34.99 21/11/2008
Neverwinter Nights 2: Storm Of Zehir (Expansion Pack) EUR 20.99 21/11/2008
StarCraft II EUR 41.99 28/11/2008

Beyond the RPG's...

I always liked free-roaming FPS games so Crysis: Warhead & Far Cry 2 are obvious.
I also tend to play Survival Horror games so Dead Space and Silent Hill 5 is kinda obvious as well but I do not try to get my hopes up on SH5.

Grand Theft Auto IV. Well, I thought the third game was boring and frankly I do not like the theme... but I guess I have to check it out. I tend to try to challenge my prejudices if enough recommend something to me.

I was never a fan of the original Tomb Raider, but the story in Legends really changed my mind, so Tomb Raider: Underworld is a must for me. I doubt there are many on RPGwatch who feels the same. Even my wife asked me "Is that really your kind of game?" when I played Anniversary (which wasn't as good as Legends).

Finally I have now played StarCraft and I will finish Brood Wars during Christmas I think, all to prepare myself for StarCraft II, which seems to be something extra.

Having said that, there actually seems to be quite a few games for me to chew on next vacation. I have really felt that PC gaming runs thin these days but this looks pretty good.

For me, Storm of Zehir and GTA IV are the only clear must-buys there, but there are a few more that I've tagged "hold" -- i.e., wait for the buzz and make up my mind then. Of these, I'm most closely following Far Cry 2 and Fallout 3.

Well scratch one spacegame out. Dark horizon forgot to add useful joystick support into the game:
I've developed software for almost 31 years... there is not a valid reason to NOT code in Joystick Controls in a Space Simulation... it just doesn't take that much to do and doesn't add very much in executable file size!

It would be similar to telling a modern Jet Fighter Pilot that they must fly their multi-million dollar aircraft with ONLY a Mouse. No Joystick, No Throttle Controls, No Pitch and Yaw Controls of any kind. I just don't see that as viable in the "Real World"!
Let me spell it out for you. This is a niche genre. People who want to play these games have been starved since Freespace 2 and I-War 2. There recently was this game "Starforce Rogue" or something that also tried making a similar game without joy support and it was HATED by everyone that tried it.

*zakhal slaps dark horizon developers around a bit with a large trout*

EDIT: They are going to patch it in - perfect! I guess I might still give this game a chance.

Reminds me of Freelancer ...

It lacks the free elite style roaming that was in freelancer. Its more like old style mission based shooter ala wing commander. Its a sequel to tarr chronicles.
All in all, there are 2 clear types of space sims the 'story' mission driven games (Wing Commander, Freespace, Tarr Chronicles and Dark Horizon) and the 'story/freeform' with RPG elements (Elite/Frontier, Freelancer, Darkstar One, X2 & X3)

Funny thing came up about the dark horizon - it seems the devs failed to add proper joystick support because uhm they have no experience of using joysticks in space sims. Infact they asked gamers to email them for details how they should implement the joystick. It propably tells quite well the state of the modern space sim genre.

No, what reminded me of Freelancer was the lack of Joystick-Support.
