What is the oldest physical copy of an RPG that you still have today and from which decade is that copy? Feel free to brag about your vast collection of ancient games, perhaps there even is a punch hole reader involved :)

Feel free to include consoles with ROM cartridges if you like, in answering this. As long as it is an RPG and you still own it.
Feel free to exclude any P&P RPG.

It would be good if you could also comment on the title and the exact year of your oldest physical copy.

Hero's Quest (1989) would be the oldest single RPG I own physically which I only found a physical copy for last year. Althrough technically the Ultima Collection (1998 I think) contains older RPGs - Akalabeth (1979) all the way up to Ultima 8 (1994). I was disappointed with the extras in the box sadly given the Ultima reputation for goodies.

Ultima 6 (1990) would be the oldest RPG I owned from back in the day and it came with a great manual. It had monster descriptions, lore etc and was a fun read.

Might and Magic-Secrets of the Inner Sanctum. The one with the oversize manual with the floppy disks in it.

Bard's tale II which I bought in 1988.

an incarnation of pibbur who knows it's here - somewhere.

PS. I also have a few text adventure games (their names eludes med at the moment), that came with my CP/M machine in '84. But I don't know if any of them were RPG's. And I don't know if I still have them. DS.

Most of old games have been sold or discarded, but I still have user manuals of System Shock 2 (1999), Half-Life (1998), Thief (1999), among others, that's RPG enough to me by default of a specific definition.

The oldest complete box with CD & manual must be Morrowind (2002).

Maybe I still have disks with my old Amiga, but I will not bother to check :p

PS: Careful with the word "decade" and its eternal debate on whether it starts with 1 or 0 ;)

Given the poll options I already showed what a decade is :)

I only have a few boxes that I kept, though I never had many. Oldest are Omikron: Nomad Soul and Outcast, both from 1999.
I also just have the box, no idea where the actual CDs went. :D

I believe my C64 tapes from the mid 80s are still in my mum's loft.

I must still have that CD of Diablo 1 the seller gave me with my first modern (post-Tandy 1000) computer in '97. The first game I remember buying with my own pocket money is Might and Magic VI, in '98.

While I own some C64 stuff still, I think those are all roms at this point. I may have a floppy disk that has a few dozen C64 games, but those are copies. I believe my oldest game on Pc is MM2. I can't seem to find MM1.

I didn't keep my original copies of anything, but at some point I ended up with a physical copy of Darklands again. So that. 1992.

I keep hearing Josh Sawyer, the dude from Obsidian, praise that one. I tried it once, but could not get past the ancient feel of it. Or maybe I just wasn't in the mood to battle an old-school interface. Maybe when I'm retired.

I gave away all my physical copies when I surrendered my commodore computer some years ago, but I have roughly three hundred pages of maps and anecdotes pertaining to games dating back to 1982, if that counts. I still use those to this day when I replay classics via great old games!

I think the oldest PC RPG I still have on physical media is Diablo 1 or M&M VI.

For console RPGs though, I still have some of my original NES games like Dragon Warrior, Final Fantasy, and Ultima III.

Baldurs Gate first version I still have in a box. That is my oldest, so 1998.
