It's fine, I think we've spent too much time beating a dead horse. We'll agree to disagree if it's ok with you. It's not like it's worth spending more time debating imo.

I didn't realize we were debating like that, but ok. :)

Anyways.. anyone else looking forward to Army of the Dead? It looks fun. 2021 has been pretty weak for action movies so far so I'm hoping that one doesn't disappoint. It hits Netflix next Friday.

We had some family over, and watched The Mitchells vs The Machines. Good fun, and the nippers thought it was marvellous.

I rewatched the French movie Amelie (I don't remember the entire title) a little while ago. Such a delightful film, and the soundtrack is very good and fits the quirkiness of the movie.

The French title is "Le fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain" (literally The Fabulous Destiny of Amélie Poulain). But yes, in English they just kept her name, as you and @lackblogger; said.

A wonderful movie, so different and joyful :)

Ah yes, the ol' different titles for different countries confusion, never fails to make communication 10 x more complicated than it has to be.

Like when I used to post about how awesome a movie Brain Dead :https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0103873/ is, only to be met with blank stares.

Many years later I discovered that the USA title was Dead Alive and that if they searched for Brain Dead they'd get this instead: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0099173/

I watched Straight Time yesterday. Very straightforward crime drama with few surprises, a so so main theme song and competent if unremarkable direction. The cast is the main draw: Dustin Hoffman as the ex-con, Harry Dean Stanton and Gary Busey as his buddies in crime, M. Emmett Walsh doing his usual sleazy turn as the PO, Kathy Bates in one of her first roles, Theresa Russell as the ex-con's love interest, etc. I take it back: one thing did surprise me, in a good way: the ending. Not so much what they did, but what they didn't do.

Watched Without Remorse yesterday. It had a few OK action scenes, for the rest it was forgettable. Although for some it is not, as the extra ending during seams to indicate there could be a sequel with a rainbow.

The Interview

Not sure how I missed it until now, but it was pretty damn funny. If you're a fan of Seth Rogan and James Franco's other collaborations, you need to see this one. It did get a little ridiculous towards the end as their fims tend to do, but I thought it was good fun overall.

Their previous movie I'd seen, This Is the End, I watched one night with some friends, and we really enjoyed it. We found The Interview a letdown. It had its moments, but not nearly as good, IMO.

That's a good one too. I enjoyed both movies, but 'This is the End' has the bigger and better cast. I like Craig Robinson and Danny McBride, and some of the cameos were pretty neat.

I watched an actor's round table discussion on Hollywood Reporter's Youtube Channel that included James Franco.

It had Gary Oldman, Tom Hanks, John Boyega, James Franco, Sam Rockwell, Willem Dafoe.

It's a one hour show and each actor has quite a bit of time to talk about stuff, but not once did I ever feel James Franco belonged at the table, if you know what I mean. He seemed like the odd one out.

And it fits with both my and the industry's and the wider world's reaction to Franco as a Hollywood star. In that he hasn't really done anything of great note, and yet he is somehow sitting amongst all these greats, with all of us knowing who he is.

I mean, I'm quite the film buff, not to the extent of some, but I do take notice of a lot of films, and yet I'd struggle to come up with a top 5 James Franco films, let alone a top 10, and I'd have even less success in naming even one Franco movie that is obviously a great film.

Sure, he did The Room parody film, but so much of the fame of that relies on the original that it's kinda scraping the barrel to imply that's Franco's masterpiece.

Yeah, he has done some really fun comedy flicks (often with Marijuana being important), but not much else as far as I'm aware.

The Disaster Artist is the only non comedy (well semi non comedy) I've seen with him, I think.

Are any of those 'comedies' even great within their own sub-genre though? As in regarded as great comedies or great pot movies?

In terms of comedy he's not even on Adam Sandler's level, let alone Jim Carrey? And in terms of pot movies he's not even close to Cheech and Chong or the afore-mentioned Seth Rogan?

I would think both him and John Boyega would be an odd fit there.
