Inquisitor - Official Page Update

Me, too. The slow English translation makes me nervous about pre-ordering, but I think I may do it anyway, if Christmas doesn't break me too badly.

RPGWatch says the game has already been released. ;)

I clicked the 'News' and it says they have been working on this game for TEN YEARS! That means they started work on it before Windows XP was even released. Yeah, I think doing a pre-order on this one is pretty high risk.

That is correct. It has been released in Russia, just as this page shows.
I've updated the estimated date for Western Europe to somewhere next year while I was checking it :)

Grim Dawn is really nothing like this, so it depends on what you expect. If you want a fun, loot-based hack'n'slasher, Grim Dawn probably will be much better. For those looking for a different, real RPG experience, Inquisitor is unique if it works.

I have finally got the czech version (which is being sold for about 24 euro right now, with discounts up to 10% available) and played it for a few hours with each of the classes - I may have answers for those considering (pre-)purchase.

Well tell us, to what is this game compareble too?
Is the texts and conversation options as deep as they say?

Aren't there any previews of this game at all? It's a bit strange since it's been in development for almost 12 years now (in a IGN interview the dev says they started developing it in 1999 or even earlier, but on their page it says 10 years in development, hmmm).

I'm getting the impression it's mostly an aRPG, like Grim Dawn (which seems fairly action oriented, but also has factions, side quests etc). Inquisitor is supposed to have an additional interrogation / torturing system, but in the IGN interview they do say it's an actionRPG.. Would be interesting to know how the torture/interrogation part works and if its really any fun..

Inquisitor - a crudely translated review

Okay - here's a randomly chosen Czech review, crudely translated to English - not edited.

Review is from per Games.cz (Tiscali.cz) web site - - http://games.tiscali.cz/recenze/inquisitor-recenze-50138

They give only a 50% score - there are a few other reviews with higher scores (79% & 80%) but are less well written.

Hunt for the witch hunt for heretics and interrogation of suspected henchmen in the tortures of hell powers, there's perhaps not. New RPG from the Dark Ages říznutého magic brings more original ideas.

God sent the plagues Ultherst empire fire and rain. Cemeteries are full of the dead, more dead people do not burn enough, half the city burned to ashes. Inquisition prosecuted witches upaluje suspects at the border, and rinsed evil demons. The gates of hell, but they are open ... Such is the introduction of the new Czech RPG and it looks like the Dark Ages really matter. Holy hell fighting powers to suggest the two of the three characters that you begin the game to choose from. Priest and paladin are best suited to him. Trinity adds clever thief who can fend for themselves in the good in bad times.

• Promising Character Creation

Rich set includes the main character be spread points to the fundamental properties and in skills. These are both common to all the characters - like the fight in the face from a distance, using armor or identification of objects - and also special for each class. A thief can improve in opening locks and collection bag mrštnému shunning enemies or verbosity, which offers more opportunities for interviews.

Paladin is a master at fighting with a shield, but can also repair damaged equipment using blacksmithing or estimating the enemy and inflict wounds him stronger. The priest in turn can learn alchemy and mixing potions, or mana restoration to be useful for adding a magical energy ... In the game of course you gain experience and improve skills and qualities. All characters can also choose the start of the book of magic; progress through the game can learn more and more.

• Shocking start

Rich options for creating character and hopefully my dark home games optimistic tune. Recording indicator slowly wind down, the game starts a. .. I expected many things, but not this. Some of the Czech game, just like lecjaký title from the former Eastern bloc, although graphically weaker than the world average, but this is really hell. Ugly, uninspired hand-drawn environments and embedded into one of the hardest heroes portrayed, I have seen in recent years. That includes freewarovek. And God forbid, if it forces the to move - tacky character rapidly oscillating topornýma down a forest path you really well nenaladí.

Each game reviewer occasionally curses his fate and railed at what kind of gibberish again got to review. I Inqusitora the jewels of Aion, and Dragon Age at first honestly hated it. But then I realized that I was obliged dokopala play the game that would otherwise discarded after two minutes. And that for me as an old school erpégéčkáře a shame. RPGs of the old school - it is exactly the case Inquisitor. If nothing else than a graphic nabušené advanced degrees are not playing, you probably do not read no further and leave the Inquisitor. But if you want to remind older titles and enjoy the original ideas, you may find this title to have its charm.

• heretics and the Inquisition

At the beginning of the game you look at a typical medieval city and you will quite quickly thrown into the role of investigator powerful Inquisition. In and around Hillbrandtu happens a lot iniquity losing themselves respectable citizens, the dead rise from the grave, dark rituals operate heretics, soldiers desert and reportedly had gone astray and honorable knight, when the foul orcs helped in the attack on the city ...
Allegedly? Yes, reportedly ... said, perhaps, perhaps. The words just now in the game you will meet quite often. Unlike many RPGs straightforward because you have a lot to verify the information from multiple sources to find evidence to refute the lies and superstitions, and specify the half-truths. Inquisitor is a lot of searching to adventurním in spirit, even when using classic RPG mechanisms, in this case collecting items and task management košatých many interviews. Truth and information are the main goal of your efforts. This is usually concerned not only with the task to "kill the bad guy and it ..." Yeah, it's the killing there of course, but first you'll have the villain to reveal themselves.

• The torture him!

Sometimes the search easier (necromancer hungry for your blood at a cemetery for the venerable citizen issue will not), but sometimes it turns out to be the villain at first sight noble probity. To gather evidence and return in the service of the Inquisition, however, you can use any means. Just torture! This feature is truly original and I do not remember him in any such game. How does it work? Credible and realistic: if you pick up some evidence against a suspect, issue a warrant Inquisitor, the zabásnete and then you can examine in the torture chamber. The culprit is usually granted, but beware of the torture of errors: it will be a good reputation among the people really does not add.

• Villages, forests, dank dungeons

After the game world by global travel map with important locations (a la Baldur's Gate), which is fast and convenient. Check out into the towns and villages, Orc camp, mines, underground crypts, spider nests, troll infested forests and mountain giants and half turn. Altogether this is a typical medieval places that evoke the gloomy atmosphere. So - induces, if they had been well prepared. But unfortunately not. The concept of the game world a captious note: this is a world where magic and wizards is quite slow, which is pretty cool. But where the hell it takes the magical ton (probably randomly generated) objects, huh?

Besides the large variety of weapons, armor, helms, amulets and other tomfoolery you'll get a solid variety of offensive, defensive and strengthening spells, divided into several schools. Weapons and spells will enjoy abundance, as it fights in the game quite a lot. Is sufficient to simply click on the enemy and its main character begins rubato what is at hand. The first mouse button, then use a special ability, so most of the magic ... or robbing people or too clinches locks. But this is out of combat, of course.

• You're not alone

The battle will not be alone - as the game progresses, you can take on different characters into teams, some of which hate each other. Number naverbovatelných helpers depends on your rank, you can break it over time with special quests and money. A ratio model of Fallout in the team can also take on dog fighting ...

The game is sometimes even at a low difficulty choosing quite difficult. Some will fight again and try again, or leave for later. Personally, I quite annoyed at fighting a small battery cronies, whom I took to the party. Paladin, a holy warrior and a typical "bucket" Indeed, the level-upech (in which a partner can influence) does not focus specifically on improving health, which is fighting the characters quite annoying. Already some on the tenth level was my main character - a thief and a shooter, and certainly not the typical bumper - more than hitpointů nice paladin. Which is wrong. Over time, although it leveled, but smarter I would have expected improvements a partner (or the opportunity to influence their development).

• Damage horrible graphics

Not only is the hero of the struggle alive. It may also be alive to trade and vyspravovat guns, rich talk to many NPCs, or need to play dice in the tavern. The game is generally very rich, and even more sorry you mentioned poor image processing. Animation freewarovku like someone just hard to take. Otherwise, the technical aspect of the game pulled off quite well, and besides the occasional crashes on Windows (which ascribe review version of the game) I found no problems. Awards include textařům and scriptwriters, who set a really large amounts of dialogue and narrative readable and quality manual. A little friendly and could be clearer diary and a map, but the basic orientation of these devices is sufficient.

The outdated graphics, I'm surprisingly a few hours of play settled. Woeful animation and irritant to me say it, but from playing strictly discourage me. I surprised myself, as I sometimes hunt for heretics and infernal helpers entertained. And anyway: do you know how this game seems to me? As the artist sat down, came up with a lot of ideas that fell short in other RPGs, and put together a very good script and game mechanics with many original features. Programmed the game, but found that they had no professional graphics ...

• Ordinary players, hands off

In other words, for mass-oriented gaming audience Inquisitor is totally bricked. The title not only not beautiful or even breathtaking, and he is basically not much koukatelný. Erpégéček fans who over the graphics eye přimhouří But he will come to their own - such inquisitorial investigation into a dark fantasy world does not try too often.

A language of numbers: if you belong to this group of players, feel free to total verdict Bid few tens of percent. If someone is completely stolen graphics, whether they be presented 8 / 10 ... game principles and the atmosphere is having. Maybe next time the resulting mix of great ideas and terrible treatment left with only the positives. It would be best to wait until the game is cheaper from the current 666 CZK to be half the amount before or at a magazine.

Sounds like a console gamer review to me. At least from what I could understand.

But then I realized that I was obliged dokopala play the game that would otherwise discarded after two minutes. And that for me as an old school erpégéčkáře a shame. RPGs of the old school - it is exactly the case Inquisitor.

So what I could comprehend from this is that he doesn't like old-school rpgs and he is forced to play and review this one which is an old school rpg. Couldn't they find someone who does like RPGs to play this game?

If he hates it then I'll love it ;)

The game is sometimes even at a low difficulty choosing quite difficult.
This is a good thing. I hate being bored.

The outdated graphics
*yawn* like I care. I've seen the screenshots. They aren't the best in the world, but they certainly are not that bad.

• Ordinary players, hands off
WIN! I'm not an ordinary player so HANDS ON! :p

Thanks for the review Wulf, but I think this guy doesn't like RPGs.

Dragon Age 'masterpiece', ehm.
And +-3 to score based on graphics only? Oh please.
Information he gives about other aspects of the game (skills, quest description etc.) is pretty accurate though.

My impressions so far:

- Animation is bad indeed. Most objects in the game (doors, chests etc) don't animate at all; characters would be better without animation. Trees move a bit, which looks nice. Other than this, you'll get all the graphics information you need from the screenshots.

- Character creation is simpler than described - you choose 1 of 3 classes (Paladin, Priest, Thief), which (at the start) differ only in slight amounts in the primary skills (which you can improve at the creation), small set of unique (secondary) skills and amount and type of magic they have access to. You can't touch your 'secondary' skills yet.

- Secondary skills cover various areas besides just the combat - nothing surprising though: 'thieving', conversation, item identification, repairing and creation.
These skills are (effectively, not exactly) limited by primary skills and character's level - which means, for example, no matter how dexterous the thief is, he can't be better pickpocket than his level allows (and vice versa). Skills' descriptions are well written (in terms of information contained and its formatting), but seem to have some sort of forced humor added to them which seems out of place in 'serious' game like this (almost like they were written by some teenage student).

- World's response (at least in the first game area) to different classes is fundamentally different: Priest is respected religious persona, Paladin is expected to prove his might, Thief is actually a noble (what does he need the thieving then?), able to talk his way through.

- Combat is clumsy. I haven't had a chance to use more than one character at the time, but sometimes one was already too much to control. The combat is unpauseable realtime, which is the worst possible choice for deep cRPGing (and I'm not going to discuss this) - sometimes, the result of the encounter is affected more by me clicking at the required spots of the screen, than my character's ability (because clicking 'attack' on moving enemy is actually interpreted as 'walk-to' command, targeting ground instead of enemy). Fights are not too fast though, so I expect this to be less of a pain once I get used to its various quirks.

- Dialogs are… deep and serious, yes, but also quite linear though. When someone has to tell something, he goes on and on, with your character just encouraging him along the way. When someone gives you the quest you always have the three expected responses at your disposal: - Ok; - What's in it for me?; - No, thanks.
Than, there is set of questions that can be asked during dialogs with most of the characters - which, in some cases lead you to some information, but most of the time, they don't. Intuition needed here, as you cannot walk around, asking everyone everything.

- Action RPG? As mentioned, combat is unpauseable realtime, but at least half of the game is spent outside of it (walking, talking). Also, about 75% of the skills are combat oriented. Make your opinion here.
Okay, I'm getting exhausted writing this much. Any questions?

Thanks for that. The unpausable realtime aspect has me concerned. Not so much that I won't get this the second it comes out.

No questions, just a thank you for your first impressions.

Thanks much, Daddyo. You answered my primary question already: unpausable realtime combat. Like Sskaven, that also has me concerned. You described exactly some of the things that drive me crazy about the clickfest: missing a moving enemy and getting all screwed up by moving somewhere you didn't intend to and the outcome of combat being determined more by the clicks than my character's skills.

I really don't understand why developers don't include a pause feature. If they're right that all we gamers are action-crazed kids with the attention span of a gnat, then no one has to use it. No harm done. Why alienate potential customers by not adding something so simple? Developers' endless pursuit of this self-fulfilling prophecy, which I'm not convinced is correct, is really getting on my nerves.

Last year at these times I was considering to preorder it, but then I abandoned the idea. Seems like a good choice, but I'm going to buy this game anyway when it will be out for the sake of good old 2d isometric times. Inquisitor's graphics remind me Cult: Heretic Kingdoms, which is well for me. I really like hand drawn graphics. But what really concerns me is the quality of the translation. So many Russian and eastern Europe RPGs suffered from poor translation in the past. (For ex, A Farewell To Dragons, Hard To Be A God or Gorasul comes to my mind) The translation process of the game is long and this shows they are sensitive on this subject. And translation from your native language to some foreign language can be real pain sometimes.
