Here they are. I'm sure the first two don't come as a big surprise.

My favorites are Divinity: Original Sin 2, ELEX and Battle Brothers and I'm happy that a lot of Watchers voted for them, too.

The PC Port of The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel is pretty good, too.

Yeah, sure would've liked to have seen Battle Brotes squeak in there at 3rd, but nothing to be surprised or upset about.

Prey too huh?

I should submit Madden 2018, as it has a story mode now. Best ARPG of the year.

Yeah, my prediction:

D: OS 2
Elex
Battle Brothers.

So, yeah, easiest year to predict for a long time. Eh? What? Wait a minute...

Torment got third?

Nope, you got me there. I thought that'd be down 8 to 10 somewhere. I guess it's because a lot of people played it, what with the kickstarter and all the hype, and many people don't complete many games in a year, so if it was someone's third choice of games they'd played, and they'd only played three, it gets a vote. A case of sheer numbers out-classing quality.

Yeah, yeah, subjective and all that, and, sure, maybe 10% of its players actually liked it and put it as no.1, but I'm still somewhat irritated that it gets a historical medal as a result.

Well done and well deserved for all the good crpgs in the top 10.

I am particularly pleased and happy for ELEX to get the recognition that they deserve but did not see in the gaming media.

Battle Brothers 6,2%
Prey 4,9%
Mass Effect: Andromeda 4,8%
Expeditions: Viking 3,5%
Planescape: Torment Enhanced Edition 2,6%
Grimoire: Heralds of the Winged Exemplar 2,1%

I honestly thought Mass Effect would perform better than Torment here, you can't move for Mass Effect and Bioware fans round these parts, and if not that then Prey would take up the slack, but, what? So confused.

Am I right in thinking it's a sheer number of votes thing? How does the top 10 of 1st to 10th by 1-3 definition of quality compare to the top 10 of sheer number of votes regardless of numerical order?

As every year, your votes are weighed. 1st place gets 4 points, second place gets 2 points and 3rd place gets 1 point. Or in other words there is a factor of 2 difference between the rankings. The percentage is based on points, not votes.

The only thing that surprised me is IMO the spot too high on Prey. :)

Have to agree but there was not fourth spot to vote on and also it seems that not many regulars here played it which is a shame.
Here's hope the upcoming port of the sequel changes it.

Maybe we should make a GotY vote for ports/remakes for 2018. We are getting more and more of these - which is a good thing.

I think Swen will be pleased. Though it is no surprise. :)
