Publisher dtp sends word that Venetica has gone gold. It will be released in the German speaking countries on Sept. 4th. The XBox conversion needs a bit more time, it will follow in October.
More information.

Argh, enough with all these german RPGs :)

When do we get any in english?!?

No, seriously - great news! Looks like a fairly interesting RPG.

Seems as if all the RPG's with features we really want come from Europe and Germany specifically. Dragon Age is my only local hopeful, but even that looks like cutscene hell and on rails linear.

Perhaps loads of cutscenes, but the linearity I'm not so sure about - they are talking about 60 hours main quest, 120+ hours based on optional stuff. We'll have to see ...

Very nice ! :) I'll definitively keep Venetica further on my radar ! :)

... So many new interesting games, so few time and money ...

(King's Bounty Add-On, Majesty 2, Tropico 3, Venetica ...)

Excellent. The German magazine Gamestar loved it. They said it as really an unusual title. A bit light on character development (ie, not a stats game, not a huge amount of items), a bit Witcher-esque combat, and focused on telling a very unique and lovely crafted story.

Sicne they played a preview version, they only gave a provisoric score of 60 out of 70 (normally their scores are out of 100). Supposedly it means that Venetica will get at least 60/100 as the final score.

Yeah I was expecting it to be a bit RPGlite. I like the rest !

I couldn't find anything solid regarding an english release. Not on the site,
not listed on amazon or play... Does dtp handle the English territories too
because I havent heard anything about a publisher ?

Hope not, 60/100 in Germany means something like near total failure.

60/70 means 85% if the entire game is as good as the part reviewed. But in theory, the game cannot get lower than 60. I think that's what Grandor Dragon meant.

What we now need is a "German for Video Games Made Easy" course.

Can't find it on the web. But you know what? I am sitting here with the review and a nice glass of white wine. Let me translate the summary box for you. I am doing rather quickly, but you'll get the point.

("+" means that the aspect is positive, "-" negative, "?" uncertain since they didn't test the final version)

Graphics:
+ good character expressions
+ beautiful landscapes
+ good lighting
+ some good animations
- some poor animations
8/10

Sounds:
+ fitting soundtrack
+ nice sound effects
+ well acted cutscenes and dialogues
- some effects too monotone
9/10

Balance:
+ with the right weapon, every enemy can be defeated
+ 3 difficulty settings
+ including one for newbies
- someitmes too easy
9/10

Atmosphere:
+ fascinating story
+ atmospheric locations
? will there be more diverse interiors and character models?
? will AI-glitches be fixed?

Controls:
+ easy to learn keyboard controls
+ clearly laid out menus
- quickbar too small
? will the camera be improved?

Scale:
+ diverse quests
+ appropriate length
- little replay value due to lack of different character classes
8/10

Quests:
+ diverse main quest
+ different types of side quests
+ no "gather X amount of Y" quests
- gets weaker towards the end
9/10

Characters:
+ useful combat skills
+ magic system fits the story
+ credible NPCs
- levelling system too simple for pros
8/10

Combat:
+ enjoyable action-combat
+ different weapons required for different enemies
+ useful special skills
- can become monotonous
9/10

Items:
+ useful items
+ upgradable "shadow blade"
- too little diversity
? will there be more items?

Yes October.
At the End Of The GamesCom Trailer I sent in it says October 2009.

All we need is to know who the Publisher/Distributor is.

I'd be very surprised if a yet-to-be-revealed publisher got the game out so quickly. That would mean close to zero effort for pre-release marketing, such as English previews. Clearly this won't be a big release but some little effort might garner a handful more sales.

I'll bet it's not until next year.
