The TV Series discussion thread

Being predictable doesn't make it bad. It started back in season 2 (I think?) when they showed a dude resurrecting some other dude, so it's not like they brought him back because the character was popular.

I wonder though, if she can do it now, can she go and revive Stanis? (if he actually died that is)

I know it isn't a bad thing, like I said I am still enjoying that part of the show. I am just enjoying some of the other ones more.

In the books other people are resurrected as well, but their storylines aren't in the series or are changed to not have a need for resurrection.

To me, Colony was like that. Colony was really a spy drama with a couple of sci fi trappings. If you take out the drones and reduce the size of that ginormous wall, there was no need for any aliens at all and the enemy could have easily been some earthly superpower.

But isn't that the whole point? Its often how Sci Fi starts out, as a kernel from an modern idea then it expounds out, but in the end talking about current times. Maybe they expound to the logical extreme and become a warning; then get ignored because somehow "science"=morality in many modern settings - yet that was the major theme of Frankenstein and Dr Jeckyll and Mr Hyde. The most extreme in Brave New World which expands on philosophies of Freud, industrialization and weird social experiments - mainly the Oneda Colony.

Just as Aliens and the Cyberpunk novels reflect this 80's sensibility of corporate takeover of society, these Nolan projects (Dark Knight, Person of Interest), Almost Human and Colony reflect the growing notion of too much monitoring - though they too seem to be too worried about gov't and not enough about corporations doing this.

For some other rarely seen Sci Fi in this age of online I recommend Other Space which I'm desperate this low budget gem can get a second season, and Dark Matter which can be found on Netflix.

I hope the US can get it at the same time it airs in Canada.

Dark Matter is not rare, SyFy is (was) airing it all over the world.
Other Space - never heard about it. Will get informed.

GoT this week was pretty good. A lot of new situations set up. I especially liked Brienne's scene with
Davos and Melisandre
. Good tension! :)

Also more fun theories out there

Has Osha seen cannibals? Were TV Osha and Rickon also on known haven-to-cannibals Skagos? Did Rickon learn the ways of cannibals, or long-forgotten cannibal magic? Is Rickon going to eat Ramsey alive? Oh god please please let Rickon eat Ramsey alive

No really, I hardly got any sci-fi vibes at all from Colony. It was a poorly executed concept that needed a ton of rewrites to work. That is not to say there could be sci fi story with a similar premise. But these writers went out of their way to show almost nothing of our alien conquers. And in a season that lasted 12 episodes, it was clear to me, that was one of series rules they put in place for season one.

But to your point, you don't need a lot of sci fi trappings to tell a sci fi story. But Colony failed for me because it's basic point of a complete alien take over of the planet was not consistent with the story they put on the TV screen. As far as it being a parable of our times in regards to to much monitoring, I think that is a stretch. In Colonly, our rights for privacy weren't given up or slowly taken away, we were conquered and the world was basically a prison camp.

I thought the latest GoT episode was much better. Really moved the plot along, had powerful moments, and was dark without descending into torture-porn grandstanding.

I'm guessing that being confined to the books was slowing down Thrones a bit, now, without that condition in place, they seem to be doing their own thing, and quite well at that. I was amazed that Sansa got to the Black Keep in under a week myself, all the travel times seem to be a thing of the past now. Now people can enjoy both the tv and book versions for what they are.

Bit of a lame trailer - someone just knocked up a few 3d space effects in Adobe and played a few bars of the Star Trek theme.

Fair enough, but teasers usually tease you with a few scraps. This has nothing at all.

About the latest GoT episode.

Things were really set in motion in that episode. What a great episode. The orgin on WW was explained which was exciting, but Hodor's story was really heartbreaking to watch. The last few minutes were exciting to watch, but so sad as well. I will miss the gentle giant. :(

I enjoyed the episode, though they must have realised they haven't been gratuitous for a while, so added some extra breasts and a surprise cock and balls close up.

The end sequence was really good, but I am a bit puzzled.

I'm not really sure what Max von Treeroots is all about, or who the grenade launching wood sprites are, or why they created the White Walkers, and why said White Walkers now want to kill them.

Anyone with a better handle on it that could fill me in?
