The indie action/RPG with some roguelike elements Scallywag: In the Lair of the Medusa has been released:
The hour has arrived! Adventurers, now is the time to go forth into the dank darkness overgrown with bizarre flora, and face untold horrors in a quest for fame, fortune, glory, and ale! No, we're not talking about your computer room (although cleaning up those fuzzy gray Taco Bell wrappers may not be a bad idea), but the deadly catacombs found in Scallywag: In the Lair of the Medusa, now shipping worldwide!
Scallywag: In the Lair of the Medusa, developed by Chronic Reality and published by Shrapnel Games, is a single-player dungeonstomp that hearkens back to good ol' days of dungeonstomping. There are no bothersome NPCs with their tales of woe and FedEx fetch quests, no need to worry about whether you need to play Lawful Stupid to get the "good" ending, nor will you need to pick up a $19.95 strategy guide to actually figure out the level layouts. No, Scallywag: In the Lair of the Medusa is all about hacking and slashing your way through eighty randomly generated levels, collecting loot and power on your quest to lay the smack down on the final boss monster. Remember, don't think, just kill!
Scallywag: In the Lair of the Medusa is available for Windows based PCs for only $29.95. Currently shipping and only available as a physical product, it will also be available for download very soon if you would prefer that method of delivery. We should point out that the non-label side of the physical CD makes an excellent mirror for when you encounter a medusa in real life, potentially saving you from an eternity in a rock garden. That alone should be reason enough to grab a copy, but maybe you want to hear more.
Scallywag: In the Lair of the Medusa is essentially two products in one. The first product is the exciting adventure quest of the game's title which players can immediately dive into once installed. Players take on the role of Rapius, as he battles his way through eight different underground worlds, all randomly generated with each new game, as he attempts to save his beloved ShrOOm ale supply. Oh, and as a byproduct of that save the good citizens of his valley. Hey, a hero needs to have his priorities in order!
Play at four levels of increasing difficulty, and battle an army of monsters each with their own unique strengths and weaknesses. Discover the weird and wacky effects of mushrooms, ales, and more. Collect items and combine them to create even more powerful items, and always be on the prowl for more oil. Only your lamp keeps the darkness at bay. Too bad it doesn't keep the monsters away, too. And then there are the "mutators"; numerous conditions that can be imposed on the player, which can also stack for really interesting combinations.
The second product is the Random Adventure Game engine, or RAGe. RAGe powers Scallywag: In the Lair of the Medusa and is completely open to players. The adventure never has to end, never grow stale! Literally everything and anything in the game can be easily modded by users. The level of modding is entirely up to the individual, but regardless of whether you're just changing out an item's properties or dropping in new art and sound, it's a snap to do! Most modding can be done with basic Windows applications everyone already has access to, although you can get down and dirty with a shot or two of C++ if desired (but definitely not required for the majority of mod making). Be sure to stop by the Shrapnel Games forums to share tips on modding, and check out the possibilities that RAGe provides.
Scallywag: In the Lair of the Medusa is part game, part toolkit, but all unlimited entertainment potential. Battle in the depths against the Medusa, or battle against your own creations! Make the adventure you want to play! Years of possibilities, all for only $29.95!

Well, I certainly can't complain about a generic press release full of over-used, predictable phraseology on this one. I've downloaded the demo (really quick!) on the strength of this line:

We should point out that the non-label side of the physical CD makes an excellent mirror for when you encounter a medusa in real life, potentially saving you from an eternity in a rock garden. That alone should be reason enough to grab a copy....
