The RPG The Dungeon Of Naheulbeuk: The Amulet Of Chaos has been released:

The Dungeon Of Naheulbeuk: The Amulet Of Chaos

Are you ready to dive into a tactical RPG chock-full of charm, humor and crazy characters?!

They are clumsy, inexperienced and feisty but...they'll have to endure each other's company to get the dungeon's treasure.

However, a feeling of deja-vu quickly arises...

Guide this team of unlikely heroes in an adventure full of humor and chaos!

The Naheulbeuk universe is an original creation by French author John Lang. It started as a very popular audio comedy series parodying role-playing games and heroic fantasy tropes. Now the story is available in English and as a video game for the first time!

Game features

A ... less than ideal ... team of heroes

  • Play with seven classic role-playing game characters complementing each other's skills as you level them up: the Ranger, the Elf, the Dwarf, the Magician, the Ogre and the Thief!
  • Every member of the team has their own skill tree to upgrade their abilities and equipment.
  • Choose one of three additional companions to join the team on their adventure!
Epic Battles

  • Exciting turn-based battles, with creative support mechanics between team members.
  • An adaptive difficulty system: from an accessible and fun story mode with simplified combat to the "nightmare mode" where the smallest tactical errors will doom you!
  • An expansive bestiary (more than 100 enemies!) pushing you to think more tactically with every fight.
  • Epic boss battles where you'll have to muster both strength and smarts to emerge victorious!
  • Hidden and destructive objects (including beer kegs) with surprising status effects will turn the tide of battle for the better...or worse!
A dreadful dungeon

  • Explore a huge and surprising dungeon from the cave up to the luxury quarters of the evil lord Zangdar, passing through the goblin iceskating park and even an extremely lively tavern!
  • Escape traps and solve deadly puzzles to unlock the most impressive treasures!
  • Bizarre conversations, absurd situations and unusual encounters await!
  • Experience an exciting main storyline and many side quests for your heroes
Thanks Alrik!

I think this looks pretty good. I can imagine "serious" RPGers dismissing it on account of the humour, but looks to have some pretty good TB combat and nice crunchy stats and mechanics underneath.
I have way too many games to catch up on, so another one on the wish list.

Yeah, it looks good. A problem with humour and sarcasm is that it requires a lot more skill to make it fly than being serious. I'll check the reviews and might pick this up in a year when all the (expected) bugs have been weeded out.

It unfortunately lacks a higher replay value that I was hoping it would have on release. Will have to read more reviews before I buy or just wait for a sale.

I'm not paying $35 for it, but it looks cute. I'll get it in the Black Friday sale.

Not sure about the skill for humor, but the much bigger problem here is subjectivity.
Nothing is more subjective than humor - which means that no matter what kind of humor, you've already lost a portion of your target audience simply because it's not their kind.

IMO even a bad humor attempt is better than none.

One of my very few instant buy releases within the last 10 years (to my own surprise, Windbound was the other one).

I've just been thirsting so much for humour that I just couldn't let this go past !

If I wasn't fully involved with EQ2 right now, I'd buy this immediately. I will, however, purchase this the moment I've a lull in the current game I'm playing, as this just seems to hit all the right notes for me.

I just picked this up. I'll post my feelings on it after I've played for a while. Looks really good, I love the dungeon map design because it reminds me of tabletop D&D maps.

I played a demo of it a few months back. It was better than I expected... maybe not worth full price but I'll probably pick it up on sale at some point.

How is this set up? Is it randomly generated dungeon levels to mess around in, or is there an actual dungeon per se` with a narrative?

Initial thoughts: This is one of the coolest little games I've picked up in a long time, and it's totally worth the price. (I spent more on a crappy Arby's dinner yesterday while entertaining guests.)

So far the humor/personality of the game is quite fun, and the combat system is amazingly both complex and easy to learn - kind of like in the way that I'd say Chess is easy to learn, hard to master.

Definitely happy I grabbed this. I'll update when I have more than 10 hours in the game. :)

I put it on wish list for now to see how it goes. Sounds like a fun diversion at some point.

I second this. The humour is rather cheesy, it's a full time parody of the typical roles in a RPG party, but it's kinda refreshing. The combat is good and fun, and also challenging at the highest difficulty, at least so far.

I've had problems to run it smoothly at max settings though, it has this motion stuttering/graphic lag, but after some tuning I got it to run well, and honestly, this is not the kind of game you'd care a lot about how it looks graphically. It does look pretty in general, and the graphic design goes well with the mood and the setting.

Worth the buy for tactical combat fans who like or at least don't mind a slice of cheesy humour.
