Dragon Age - Origin Stories Unveiled
February 12th, 2009, 23:28
BioWare has detailed all six Origin stories from Dragon Age, with a new page on the website allowing you to choose a Dalish Elf, Mage, Dwarf Noble, Dwarf Commoner, City Elf or Human Noble and then read a description, view screens, get a wallpaper - and a trailer for each Origin is marked as "coming soon".

Did the product hype department not get the memo about the game being delayed for several months?
February 13th, 2009, 04:22
They said in the delay announcment that they were going to push ahead with all the marketing/previews/hands ons etc that had been previously planned.

I love this idea. They started it with the background selection in ME (they were a nice touch), and now they're continuing with more fleshed out backgrounds. Hopefully, there will be references and maybe even sidequests tied to your background later on, so it's not just different "tutorials". If they manage to make the background matter through the whole game, it might just turn out to be an amazing feature, that adds a lot of replayvalue.

Bioware's Chris Priestly did confirm (in the DA forums at Bioware) that they were not showing the epic (romance?) update that were promised for Valentine's Day, but some other epic stuff. And now we know that it were the Origin stories that they chose to share with us.
And as many peope on the DA forums wanted to know a little more about these, it probably wasn't such a bad idea, I find…
And the trailers could just as well have been pushed back to say august 09 or something like that; 'soon' is a relative concept, imo..

Exactly - the PR stuff was already in place, so they just let it fly … hope they don't overplay / overspend too early.

The videos for the Origin Stories that were previously set to "Coming Soon" are now available. Head over to the flash-y Origins Section to see them.
Meh, more of the same old marketing. They could've just shown some footage of the origins gameplay, but no. They chose to show me Bioware devs talking about how cool/awesome the game is gonna be. And I'm not saying it won't be. Anyways.

The delay seems to suit a marketing campaign starting now, and hyping the game all the way to release.
I wonder if that was intentional or an unintended "side-effect"
You guys are too easy.

I have no idea why it's being hyped so heavily so far before. I just hope the hype translates to a lot of initial sales that in turn generate even better word-of-mouth. I think the game is good enough to merit a franchise (and nothing I wrote is in there anymore, so factor in professional loyalty, but not personal ego at this point), but as part of EA, we need sales figures to make that possible.

@rune_74
that would not be a wise move for them. not only would they face scrutiny probably in excess of bethesda's for fallout 3 but you would also have a horde of angst toward ea, not just from what happen with origin, but everything. that would be quite some obstacles. though considering all of that i personally would buy the game. who knows though maybe when garriot actually becomes as old as lord british we may see a return of the series.
