Scallywag: In the Lair of the Medusa--to get?

I see some folks mentioned this awhile back but nothing from there. I'm VERY tempted to get this since 1. I'm the Roguelike guy. 2. The seemingly robust editor intrigues me, and 3. I have a subtle suspicion of this being something that will go OOP soon and become one of those literally impossible to find games after the fact.
I'm leaning towards the physical box copy to that end.
How's the full version game overall? Any victories? Bug/crash issues?
I'm pretty much within inches of getting this, but money isn't infinite and all.
Also tempted to try this Dominions III game this Shrapnel outfit also have, anybody played it?

I have Dominions 3. It's a very good game for a certain type of person. It's complex in the extreme. Think Master of Magic on steroids. The manual alone is hundreds of pages. You don't control your armies during a battle. You setup your tactics before hand and hope everything turns out for the best. You can watch the battles after they have happened to see where you can improve or adjust your tactics and there are too many spells to even begin to list.
If all of the above didn't dissuade you then by all means buy it immediatly. It is one of the best Empire building games out there. It took me awhile to get used to not being able to control my armies during battle, but once you get over that hurdle it becomes a lot easier. The tricky part is cueing up your spells before hand. It's hard to know what will happen on the battle field so you don't really know when you should que up a fireball like spell, buff up the troops spell or your usual summon spell. You can, of course, let the computer handle your mages, but I prefer to have some say so in what spells get cast in the beginning and then let the computer take over.
That only scratches the surface of how complex this game is. I haven't even gone into the different creatures, ages, gods and the abilities you can choose, the different kingdoms (they even have a Cthulhu like kingdom which was rather cool), gems, heroes, etc…
If your on a tight budget and complex games don't make you run screaming, then buy this game first before Scallywag. It's guaranteed to keep your attention for quite some time.
I didn't buy Scallywag so I can't really give you any advice for that one.

Despite all my rage.
I'm still just a rat in a cage.

Dominions III seems to have a Roguelike-touch to me, namely this depth of strategic options you allude to. I'd say my getting it is now a lock, especially since the game happens to be on sale there for $55 at the moment as opposed to the usual $60, which in either case will make it my most expensive PC game ever purchased.
Just waiting for confirmation on Scallywag before I sign up and then fire the big order through!

Unfortunately, as has been the case with me for far too long, I've not gotten around to them yet due to backlog! Though, I am involved in a certain upcoming RPG that many folk here SHOULD really like lately…so there's been that eating up time as well.
Based on the manual for Scallywag, it has some interesting mechanics going for it. Somewhat like Nethack, not only is there a variety of status conditions at play, but different simultaneous conditions can create other results entirely---even going so far as to alter the way some items are used and such.
There's also an interesting junk system. As you collect random junk that seemingly has a use, it actually develops one! Once you've collected enough of "something" you can get one of many eventual prompts based on the amount you have to craft it into something useful like a shield or rig it with some manner of potions. The light system is also seemingly very well wrought, which further baffles me as to why the Roguelike community at large hasn't already jumped on this game as light and lines of sight issues are among the hottest topics of discussion within the development community all around.
Dom III, that manual I've NOT read but just the first couple pages since it is about 300pgs. In time though, in time, as I get around to this and that and finish up this current commitment I've got. I do ultimately plan to delve DEEPLY into the powerful modding within the game of Scallywag though, and through it try and liven up the sales and community around it Roguelike wise as it bears every indication of being a tremendous and baffling waste of a good thing NOT to do so.
