New copy protection
April 30th, 2009, 16:44
Hello, everyone.
According to www.adventurecorner.de will the forthcoming PC adventure game "The Whispered World" have a new kind of copy protection.
Three 12-sided dice.
Yes, you have read correctly. And it ain't April's Fool, too.
Now that's something I call innovative.
Plus, these dice will be used for an in-game board game.

Don't suppose they've got a page in English?

Sorry. No pearls of wisdom in this oyster.
Dallas Cowboys: Can we be done with the offseason? / / Detroit Red Wings: At least we get a new coach

The info is brand-new. I don't think it's too widespread yet.
The official site seems to be multi-language, though: http://www.the-whispered-world.com/index.php?lang=en

I've long maintained that in-game maps instead of cloth maps, having the manual available essentially in the game instead of books that come with the game (especially like the Origin ones that looked like they came from the game) and doing away with the extra little freebies have done more to enable piracy than just about anything.
Even without the 'go to page 6 and type in the 3rd word in paragraph 4', there was just something cool, authentic about having those things. They made the experience more immersive, like it extended out of your computer and took over your desk as well.

The dice wil have some sort of "runes" on them, there is a picture there, but other than rolling that dice at the beginning of the game to get a valid combination (?) I know nothing yet.
