I hope not; generally speaking I and dte get along very well, despite the fact that he's a dirty rotten jackbooted running-dog redneck Fascist and I'm a cheese-eating bleeding-heart pinko Commie Arab-loving surrender monkey. There are certainly no hard feelings on my side.
I think it's more likely that he just feels duty-bound to fight the good fight here, since the place has mostly been overrun by us pinkos lately.

I said 'politicians' meaning anyone elected or appointed by elected officials.
I think that the overwhelming majority of decisions made in Western courts (i.e. EU, US, CA) are done with a clear sight of justice in intent and without political pressure. After posting what I did this morning I realized that it wasn't you but someone else who basically said 'US courts are basically corrupt and EU courts are unassailably pristine' (should have thought more … by the time I did I was on the way to work where the Watch is blocked …)
I do believe in the whole 'follow the money' thing, though … so comparing a judgment where a court gives some sap $100 million for a stupid reason to one where a court gives back to the state that appointed them a massive sum then congratulates themselves as to how they have established themselves in a position of international authority by doing so … it reeks of a politically motivated judgment, whether or not that its true.

I looked over the thread briefly, but couldn't find it. Specifically, I'm interested in who said it, and exactly what did they say -- was it a politician (perhaps involved in drafting the legislation on which the ruling was based), or was it an actual judge involved in the case itself.
In the latter case, I would agree that it does smack of a politically motivated judgment.

You consider judges to be politicians? Interesting, and somewhat unusual, view.
