saved game disaster
July 23rd, 2009, 09:22
Hey guys, new to these forums, been a fan of gothic for a long time, anyway I pulled out Gothic 3 again and installed on my new computer and played away, I generally just quick save as I go and the game crashed in the middle of a save, now I can't load it and have no other saves.. I doubt there is a way of recovering this so was kind of hoping someone would be generous enough to supply a saved game file.. I was up to Trelis playing on the rebels side, anywhere close to that would be great.. This is kind of a last ditch effort before I painfully start over again so any help would be greatly appreciated!
Peace

Not much left to say then start again and try to save in different slots. I've never used those quick load/save buttons just because of what happened to you. (specially in gothic games which are known to crash from time to time)

You should never use just 1 save when playing an RPG, especially with a game the size of Gothic 3. I usually use at least 5-6 different saves and rotate through them as I go.
What version (patch) were you playing?

Hey sorry, haven't had the chance to get on the computer lol.. I was playing 1.12 but I just installed 1.71 seeings I lost my save and everyone says it's better to play, I'm a little apprehensive about having to build the character up again but oh well.

Gothic 3 gets much. much better with the community patches. There must be something like 1000 fixes or enhancements from 1.12 to 1.71. No kidding.
Make sure to read the patch CP 1.7 manual in your Gothic 3 directory. It explains the most important new options you have now.

I think he's better off not playing that version anyways…

I always keep at least 20 to 40 saves per RPG, in case I want to go back to a certain point in the game. I'd be happy to supply a gamesave, only I've got so many different patches and .inifile tweaks going, that I doubt it would be compatible, but even more importantly; - everyone playes a sandbox game like this differently; I like to focus on ranged with both bow and crossbow at first - then later I tend to shift the focus to melee, as I cannot handle how slowly the crossbow reloads - especially with some beast charging at you.
I also like to get animal harvesting skills as early as possible so that i can make some cash out of that; - he might like to focus on completely different skills; and might therefore be so irritated by the save i send him that he'd prefer to restart anyway. :/

I just realized how dumb that comment was!
