Dragon Age - Editorials Related to the Love Scenes

Koku Gamer has an editorial about Bioware's decision to add an option for gay romance in DA: Origins. Here's their conclusion:

Artists that dare to push the limits on what is considered acceptable are usually remembered far longer than those few pests who got in their way. The most recent example of this is clearly Brokeback Mountain which received such wide acclaim and recalling the names of those who wanted to boycott the film is impossible. In Bioware's case, they wanted to make the choice available to the player to have a momentary encounter with another male. Being that storytelling and choice are major parts of the RPG genre, the gay experience with Zevran adds to the story and the character's personal history and I have no problem with that. I suppose growing pains were inevitable for the gaming industry but when the slightest bit of sexual innuendo is met with such hostility, it makes me wonder which of us does not have a grasp on our own sexuality.Do you agree with the statements made in this conclusion?

Gay sex was acceptable long before Dragon Age. But kudos to Bioware for including it in their game.

I was kinda thinking that the gay supporters might have been offended. After all, the gay dude is also a murderer-for-hire and is quite easy to kill off by the main character. He also likes jewelry and fine things, which is pretty much stereotyping.
Gay bashers kill him and gay lovers have sex with him. Bioware wins both ways

Do you agree with the statements made in this conclusion?{Shrug} Whatever.
{putting tongue in cheek} But what's all this sex between elves, humans, and dwarves!? Sex between species? Isn't that bestiality?!? I'm going to go burn my DVD right now!!
Oh wait, I got it via digital distribution. Curses! Foiled again! Maybe I could print the instructions out and burn them?

I'm vaguely amused at people roleplaying being perfectly happy to forgive someone for an attempted stabbing then being annoyed that they can't kill him later for being interested in a different kind of stabbing.

I'm not aware of their being any significant outrage about the gay option in DA.
I disagree with their implication that DA's gay sex scene is going to be remembered as some kind of artistic breakthrough.

I've had that dude in my camp forever and had no idea he was even gay. I guess it didn't occur to me since any romance option in any video game holds no appeal to me at all. I quick tried out the Morrigan love angle, since that was the one everyone seemed to mention, laughed at the kissing scene, and put it out of mind.
Not that I don't think romance can have its place in a game, I just don't think any game's done it very well yet. I suppose this game and the Witcher addressed love/sex better than games in the past, it's still relatively immature and poorly-written when compared to the bulk of the content of those games.

I think it a noteworthy mention that Koku Gamer believes that "artists that dare to push the limits on what is considered acceptable are usually remembered far longer than those few pests who got in their way.2 Apart from pushing gay or bi-sexual sex, is Bioware really pushing the limits?

As far as I'm concerned Dragon Age pushes no limits - including gay/bi-sexual sex.
You don't push limits with innuendos and "sex" scenes that wouldn't be shocking in a sitcom!
It seems to me that the source of that whole "controversy" is the fact that certain parents fear that the content of the game is inappropriate for their young child. (because it's a game and games have to be for children… right?)
Nevertheless I have my copy of the game right here and I see, right on the cover, a big red box with a big "18" in it. Therefore I would find it perfectly acceptable if the game featured depictions of sexual deviance that would outdo Pasolini's Salò.

Well, if it made some gay guy ecstatic, then kudos to him for being so well rewarded in his choice of games.
I don't care for these lead the sheep (group) around type of combat games, so have no intention of 'discovering' this new wonderment of gaming history.
It'll just have to be my terrible loss.
