I suppose you can cast Force Field on people to save them..

Personally I've never even been close to saving everyone.

That second battle in Redcliff is *ridiculously hard* in terms of trying to keep everyone alive. At least one of the militia would always be dead before I even got there.

I tried on nightmare and not sure is anyone got killed - but at least Lloyd was alive, and most militia from the town and tavern. I guess my party's spells are just too powerful at level 12 against those low level darkspawns, they gone down fast without doing much damages to the town guards. I got a magic ring from Lloyd and helm of red from bann.

Yeah, the problem is before getting in range to do so, one is already dead.

This was before getting the haste spell, so maybe that is what is needed?

I managed to get through it without losing anyone on the first try. However, I got lucky.

I kept having shambling corpses get caught at a chokepoint some how; they'd just stand there and do nothing. When roughly half the enemy is not contributing to your demise, things get slightly easier. This was on normal, and about the first time the AI has done something ridiculously boneheaded in my experience (at least with an enemy. Allies on the other hand…)
