Default Dragon Age - Mod Interview @ Greywardens

April 15th, 2010, 01:06
Greywardens catches up with Dragon Age mod author Mengtzu, who created Fragments of Ferelden. By the way, is anyone playing story mods for DA?

More information.

I tried to get into Fragments of Ferelden, but in the end I just couldn't. The setting felt just too chaotic for me.

When DA came out , i waited in line to get the first copy. Silly me , i thought it will be like NWN with modding community punching adventure modules daily.

I guess it never happened.

The game is out for months now. How many story modules are there right now ?
4-5 ? And even those are short …

DA is good game. But i guess we will never again see likes of NWN :.(

Creating a simple module in NWN was generally very easy, so the community quickly grew large and had time to mature. Dragon Age unfortunately has a very powerful toolset but that came at the price of ease of use, having tried and being currently messing with it I can assure you, even just creating an area can be time-consuming (even moreso than in NWN2!).
However, I expect to see the mod community slowly grow and mature, but yeah, it'll probably be nowhere near the size of the NWN1 community and time will tell if it will be bigger or smaller than NWN2's.

That's interesting, I guess it was just a matter of time before a couple of medium/big projects started to appear (well, TBH, there have been announcements, but untill now I don't believe I've seen anything substantial).
Glad to hear it, since one of the reasons I bought Dragon Age was the replayability (both OC/expansions AND mods).
