Definitely going to get this eventually, but I'll wait until I can get a boxed copy for cheap. I don't plan on replaying DA anytime soon.

How does Impulse work? Is it like Steam where you have to be connected?

Impulse has a client but you dont have to be connected to play ( I own GalCiv2 only from them and i dont know if DRM plays a role there) .

I don't remember any Mass Effect 1 Ultimate Edition.

Edit: It's also subject to DRM, too. You don't get away from it that easily

Thanks! To take it one step further, once I download the game, say Impulse goes out of business, am I hosed? Or am I good as long as I have the game downloaded (not necessarily installed, but downloaded).

It installs once it's downloaded, so you can't have it downloaded but uninstalled (I think). Once it's installed and updated, you do not need to run Impulse again.

Indecently I just reinstalled Half Life 2 even though I had lost disc 3. I had bought the game at a brick and mortar shop, but I was surprised to find out the other day that I could just download it from them again even though I never purchased it directly from Steam.
I know that we're talking about Impulse, but you hardly hear any stories like that about these digital download stores. So thought I'd share how Steam saved me from buying the dang thing again.

That's Steamworks. It means you have to have Steam to rn the game, but it also means that you can download the game from Steam any time you like, on any computer you like. It's worth it, imo. You don't have to be online to use your Steam games, either. You have to be online to download and install, but once installed you can play your Steam games in offline mode.
I love Steam. It has saved me loads and loads of cash and also time that I didn't have to spend trying to find DVDs, and juggle between different disks in the drive to play different games.
