Judging by some of the histrionics a lot of people on here think it's more of a deeply personal affront than a simple marketing campaign.

I think the entire concept of a marketing campaign is an affront

I don't mind DLC that offers additional companions or content.

I do mind such a large number of inventory item DLCs.

Loot progression is a big part of RPGs. Ladening the game with tons of loot for marketing purposes really screws up the balance. If you get some of the best gear in the game just because you bought one of their previous titles or "liked" them on Facebook, it really diminishes the carrot of earning a steady stream of progressively better equipment. And it messes up the intended level of challenge; should enemies at a particular encounter be balanced around the gear that one ought to have from playing through the game to that point or should challenge be balanced around the assumption that players will have the much better marketing-reward gear?
