Default Thought I'd Share Solo Experience

May 15th, 2010, 17:11
Just FYI for those looking for a solo friendly MMO. I recently reactivated my LOTRO account after a 2 year hiatus and I was surprised at the quality solo content. Just reached level 51 (past the old cap, currently it is 65) going pretty much entirely solo as a Hobbit hunter. I did join a few Fellowships here and there but not out of necessity, just because I was invited, being in the area. When someone lines up next to you and starts fighting collaboratively you might as well officially join up. It was rare though. In addition, Turbine modified the "books" (the main plot line) to enable a solo option. You can ignore the plot entirely however - except that you can't pass to the eastern end of Angmar until you finish Chapter 4 of the main plot.

Anyway I thought I'd share. I've always been looking for a solo experience in MMO not because I'm anti social but because I always prefer the solo achievement. I guess that comes from a single player mentality. Looks like Turbine has done alot of work to enable the feature. Not to make this a marketing pitch, but the game is pretty inexpensive given the ridiculous volume of high quality content (in my opinion). I paid $29 for the original content plus Moria and Mirkwood and its $9 a month. The only downside as far as I'm concerned is that the quest structure still pales to a quality single player RPG. You just can't beat those it seems. MMO quests are still pretty simplistic.

Turbine also runs the FREE DDO which allows a great deal of solo play.

me and my girl both play Lotro solo, she's been playing it for literally years and has tons of characters. It's very solo-friendly, and especially if youre into the books it can be really fun.

btw Todd, what server do you play on???

I play on Vilya. No complaints there, good auction house, parts of Bree can lag but not that often.

I'm at 55 or 56 now and I'm hitting brick walls it seems. Mostly raid focus and party quests. Its getting annoying trying to find content to progress and I'm not sure I can survive Moria (can't say I've tried though). I'll try again in a few months. They are constantly changing the game (for the better).

Just an update since I stopped playing for a few months and now I'm back to it. I was actually at 51 when I stopped playing last time (not 55 or 56 like I said above, not sure where I got that…). Anyway the brick wall is no longer there. Once again the fine folks at Turbine have opened additional areas with tons of solo content and now I'm knocking on 54 and there appears to be plenty of solo content to hit the level cap considering… I haven't been to Moria, Lothlorien or Mirkwood nevermind Eregion and some other lands less known. I'm counting about 10 regions I haven't visited. Just finished Forochel which is just north of Evendim which took me a good 20+ hours of pure solo and got me 2 levels.

Anyway here is to Hobbit power!
