Biker Gang music
April 9th, 2011, 16:32
Since I got plenty of good advice on the Desert Music thread, I am going to pose another question. This time I am looking for something iconic for a biker gang entrance. Thing is, I normally rarely listen to guitar music so I am yet again rather dumbfounded.
Thing is, it's important that there's no vocals.
Initially I was going for Bad to the Bone or Ain't no place for the Wicked, but they both fail thanks to the vocals.
I guess I can mention beforehand that it's a wastelands setting (post-war/Mad Max) and a Swoop Gang.
Been thinking about the Lost and the Damned theme song, but it's short.
Thoughts?

For this purpose you need ZZ Top!
There is of course also Born to be wild (Steppenwolf), but that one is maybe too obvious. Other music from the Easy Rider movie should also fit.
If you want something more heavy, there's Black Label Society. This video has at least a few motorcycles.
If I were very evil, I could also mention this video where Britney Spears is doing things to a motorbike. But I'm not that evil.

I guess I should have said that it's important that there's no vocals though…

Well, maybe you did: "but they both fail thanks to the vocals."

Wikipedia has a list of instrumental rock bands: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_instrumental_bands
It's a long list, and most bands don't fit the bill. But if you can't get any direct hits from others here, that's at least a place to start.
Edit: One of the bands/musicians mentioned is Davie Allan who according to Wilkipedia "is a guitarist best known for his work on soundtracks to various teen and biker movies in the 1960s. Allan's backing band is almost always the Arrows (i.e., Davie Allan & the Arrows), although the Arrows have never been a stable lineup."

If ever you need a badass intro song, look no further than Metallica's Enter Sandman.
You can find an instrumental version fairly easy, like this one:

There´s a lot of different kind of music that would fit the bill for both the earlier question and this one ennio morricone´s soundtracks for example
Apart from "easy rider" most biker films use a kind of instrumental surf/psych style of music closely related to early garage-rock and strip/burlesque music
Since we are both swedish it migth be fun to know that one of the big anthems internationally for outlaw bikers is "Lädernunnan - No rule"
Anyway I have collected a lot of this kind of music and will gladly share or sell (if you have a craving for obscure LP:s)

It's hard to find without vocals. But you can try cover or just instrumental versions of those songs.
Bad to the Bone - George Thorogood

La Grange - ZZ Top

Just Got Paid - ZZ Top

Cecilia Ann - The Pixies

The karaoke version of Bad to the Bone was a bit soft, or so I thought. Just Got Paid was a bit stronger.
However, I haven't really found anything that I can use. Entombed have vocals, sandman is a bit too recognizeable (Bad to the Bone is recognizeable, but since it was a well known cultural reference to "bad guy enters" it would be ok).
A thread on another forum had plenty of tips but nothing that really hit the nail (kinda like Steve Vai Bad Horsie though).
I might have to go with something completely different for this one, going on the post-apocalypse setting instead.
