Default install tips and a Question about audio files.

April 16th, 2011, 16:31
hi all.

I finally was able to buy Precursors! turned out to be simple. I went to www.yuplay.com and bought some "yum" currency. I paid with my ordinary credit card. *then* i went to www.yuplay.ru. This is the Russian clone, the same site and there I put precursors in the buy basket and low and behold I have the Yum
in this site too, so then I just used my yum. this saved me all kinds of credit card validation hassles and even the "you cannot download outside of certain countries" screen did not come up.
[I read that you just click through that screen, to begin downloading.]

when i installed the download exe, then i began to download the 6 gig file, did not take too long. then my game needed, after this, a validation code! but on the yuplay.ru site, in my game page, there is the validation number.

I downloaded through what i think is "gamersgate.ru". after the download finished, there was now a "seeding" [torrent file??] I clicked off the screen and then an error message comes up. error messege told me that the game could not start.

I went to the shortcut and changed the shortcut compatibility to "xp, disable desktop themes", as i have windows 7 and i read that this game dislikes win 7 aero desktop.

—-still did not start.
aha! thanks to some nameless googled poster, i found that the install placed the RUSSIAN language name of "precursors" in the program files….gamersgate.ru\ XCT&#%C@*
I changed this *name* to "precursors", NOW the game begins ok!

so i noted that i had the version 1.0 exe. some patches do not "upgrade" the version number of the exe, though. and i read that with the wes's 1.3 patch, the 1.1 patch is not necessary. so i just used the 1.3 patch. the cutscenes and the grainy graphics, and the ati problems, are fixed, in that patch. i read that the game is *supposed* to be at 1.1 now.
how can i tell?

now, am I doing this install ok, so far?!

and I have one more small question. I have now basicly the russian version of the game with the 1.3 patch added plus some ini file tweaks.
there is a one GIG audio file that i could download and install, to get the missing sounds from the english version. but i thought that i read that the russian version has these files, the russian version is 6 gigs in size. thus am i right that i do not need these audio files as they are in my game?!

so I guess i am ready to play.

please comment if i need to do more, for my game.

win 7 64x
ati card.

thanks…freestone

That's difficult. You could try changing the Mouse Acceleration parameter and see if you experience big changes, if you do you have 1.1 otherwise 1.0, which I would guess you have. In that case you should be able to install the 1.1 Russian DVD patch. Better make a backup of the game though, in case your code doesn't work on 1.1 because the protection is different. In that case you could still find other ways to get it running .

Don't do that! The unofficial patch already includes all english sounds from that file and if you do use it, you will loose the Russian ones and probably get sound dropouts as well.

thanks wesp!

by the way, I cecked my precursors folder for my download files and I had already gotten the audio files. I then looked at these files and saw that these same files are in the ?1.0? russian version already. good.

P S…..I just now installed your new vampire 1.74 patch. *another* game that I *must* play soon, i will die of old age first, steam just had all the GTA games for $7.49 !! [ 16th april] at 70 years old i might die first! I am the only gamer in the senior home….EXcuse me: a few years ago I met a 84 year old lady who loves to play her SNES japanese rpgs, on her SNES that her grandaughter gave to her, never too old for games!
