What is your point?

Just find it odd, this game's reviews is being discussed almost ten years after its release :O

Wiki says it got good reviews overall:

It got mixed reviews, although there were indeed more positive than negative.
The average review score was in the low 70s range, which was more than fair considering the issues it had at release.

I remember thinking that when this kind of thing became obvious enough, people would naturally stop paying attention.
But it seems to me that people are paying more attention than ever to review scores.
Pretty unfathomable, but that's human nature for you.

I don't have much of an issue with 'bought' reviews anymore.
A good reviewer will describe the game well enough for me to understand if I'm interested or not regardless his views - and there's always a lot written between the lines. A bad reviewer if often obvious by his writing or by comparing him to others.
The reviewer I respect the most writes music reviews on a weekly magazine that are less than 100 words. He nonetheless has a gift for getting straight to the point and providing a good description even without explicitly stating whether what he's reviewing is good or not. (In fact I have noticed a trick he does: he adjusts the difficulty of the language he uses according to the difficulty of the music he reviews - if it's pop music he uses simple everyday language, if it's academic avant-garde he uses big intellectual words like he's writing for the Wire. It's surprisingly effective.)
I do however, find that the best thing by far is knowing the reviewer. If you have followed someone's reviews for a while and are familiar with his reactions you should be able to get a pretty precise idea regardless of whether he's been bought or even whether your taste is similar.

I am currently playing DMoMM. It is a good game with enjoyable moments. Some of the pluses:
- The melee combat is excellent,
- the graphics and action are exciting,
- the physics are marvellous and the world is well designed.
- It is one of the rare games where you can actually see what your character is wearing and carrying by looking down with your controller.
- You have some choices: how to approach and kill enemies, kill or do not kill critical NPCs, be good or bad .. etc.
- You can turn into a demon - and call me 'scorpio'! (did not realise this until I accidently pressed the transform button by mistake in chapter 8).
- basic melee and magic upgrades as you level up.
The story is on and off, and it takes you a while before finding it out your purpose in the game, so it can be slow at sometimes. My only problem with the game are the crashes even with the latest updates and using superior hardware (you can overcome them with reducing texture details). Otherwise, a good game and would give it 7.5/10 for the sole purpose that I did not care too much about the character and the story and pace are not that absorbing.
