Setting character stats

Play the orginal Drakensang, loved it.
Started R.O.T. today, but can't remember what the red colored stat area's mean.
I think it means I can't learn it, as I can't add any points to it, but lets say I play a fighter and want to learn lockpicking, which is red. Can I ever learn it? Also noticed some stat area's are gray/white. I'm guessing I can never learn those?
Thanks

Things in red - as far and if I remember correctly - can only be aquired / "bought" from a certain trainer.
Which means that you have to talk to every NPC and look out for trainers.
Some things can only be learned much, much later in the game.
- In the rules system, some talents must be "activated" before points can be put into them. That's what you do with the trainers. "Teaching" = "activating" there.
