Well a name is important - as much as people pretended that it wouldn't have made a difference if Bethesda didn't name their game Fallout.
They sold the rights to most of their important properties a long, long time ago, including the assets. Icewind Dale's were picked up by Obsidian almost as soon as they were founded.
I'm surprised that Interplay even still owns the logo for BIS. And it is Interplay: i just did a whois on the URL.

Regardless, Herve Caen has as much business sense as a squirrel; this will go nowhere fast as has been the case for all the other PR stunts he's pulled over the years.

Black Isle was never exactly a household name to begin with. crpg fans of course knew who they were, but that was mostly a niche group back then.
